Best watch under $400 - trying to help a friend

I have a buddy who is in college and working with a tight budget who is looking for a nice watch. He ideally wants to spend like 200 bucks but i told he if he doubled it he could probably get something fairly nice. Im trying to steer him away from some new POS watch - I told him his best bet is to scoop up a used lightly watch.

Thoughts?

does he have to have something that is a recognized name? If he's not too hung up on the brand, there are good number of boutique watch brands out there with amazing style and great price points, and of course great quality as well...

Halios
Benarus
Boschett
are some that pop into mind

Also migh want to check into Seiko's and Citizens...

Emporio Armani Meccanico. Very cheap, w/ power reserve and a beautiful face. I bought mine at full list 2 yrs ago, but they're very cheap now:

Hamilton, Seiko Kinetic, Casio dive watches. There are a lot of them out there, and the 3 that I just listed all have automatics around or under $400. Good luck.

There are a ton of different watches available in his price range. Just depends on his taste really. Let him know I have a mint Seiko SNM009k1 (SS White Samurai)1 for sale for $300shipped. Very nice watch, I get a lot of compliments on it.
