Repairing rim - curb damaged

Hi,

Unfortunately one of my rear wheels (20 inch TechArt Formulas, single piece, silver finish) was damaged by a curb. I have a pretty long scratch right at the outer edge, maybe 7 inches long. There's no spoke damage, just the outer lip of the metal.

Anyone in the Boston area got any recommendations? Dealership told me they can repair for ~$150 (although I don't know about that given it's a 20 inch rim) - and I am pretty certain they'd just outsource it to one of two companies I know of in the area that does this stuff.

Thing is my friend warned me that since they outsource, if the wheel comes back less than perfect, they can't be blamed and they'll claim its not their fault, etc.

Yeah, the curb dmg it got is pretty ugly

Thanks.

$150 is normal pricing and if they are outsourcing they won't make much. Leave it to them to fix it.

Now if the wheels were 2 or 3 piece, you could have replaced the lip and had a brand new one for a little bit more.

Another thing to consider is that it might not be worth fixing because sometimes when they unmount the tire and such they can scratch or dent the lip. Its minor but it happens.

Check with some local high end wheel shops. They typically have someone they recommend. Good luck.

If it is repairable for $150, you are being charged a customary price for fixing a significant, non-structural defect. Sounds like you curbed the wheel. They may have to weld in new metal and will certainly have to repaint. Been charged the same for curbing a stock wheel.
