M2K Ford GT

Let’s just start by saying it’s road legal. So what speed did this stock looking GT40 accomplish on its dash to glory? A blistering 293.6mph. You may need to re-read that. Built by M2K Motorsports it is estimated to produce north of 2,500 peak horsepower. When you consider the Veyron takes several miles to get up to its top speed from a rolling start, it makes this feat all the more mind-bending. Did I mention it’s road legal?

Bill Wagner’s GT500

That’s right. This is the fastest Shelby Mustang in the world at a record of 260.8mph. Also built by M2K, this car clocked the 3rd fastest run at the Texas Mile getting beat out by a Hayabusa that went 1.3mph faster. Underground Racing Gallardo

Coming in at 252.2mph in the standing mile is the UGR Gallardo. These fire spitting minotaurs take the legendary heart of the bull and inject it with super steroids to chuck out well over 2,000 horsepower to the wheels, enabling these cars to run with some of the fastest competition on the planet. AWD is retained as the choice of drivetrain and the cars run on gasoline as opposed to exotic fuels like alcohol.

Next to the modern wave of supercars, the C4 looks more broadsword and shield than cutting-edge katana but it gets the job done with brute force and smart aerodynamics.

The Race to 300mph

The Texas Mile is run every year in October and it’s plausible someone will break 300mph this year if conditions are right. When the fastest car at the event is a road legal GT40 with what amounts to an unmodified body, you have to wonder how much more is on the table. Another 200-300hp? Nitrous? What will it take to accomplish the magic 300? We’ll have to wait and find out. See you in October!
