Aston Martin Valkyrie is Faster Than Any of Us Want to Go

As if Aston Martin needed another awesome vehicle to add to their fleet, they go and introduce the Valkyrie with its 6.5-liter, V12 engine that can turn out a whopping 1,160 horsepower. Do you need to go that fast? No, absolutely not. But do you want to – I’m sure by now, you absolutely do.

Some of the power numbers behind the Valkyrie hypercar

Okay so, getting down to brass tacks, here’s what we’re looking at in raw figures: 1160 BHP at 10,500 RPM, and peak torque of 900 Nm (663 lb.-ft.) at 6000 RPM. Translation: This car is going to go fast. Like, really, really fast.

This has been a long time coming

One year, actually. But the year has been longer than it seemed. That’s because Aston Martin, and those associated with the project, leaked a series of rumors, published a bunch of tweets that were later deleted, and dropped a few teasers over the months leading up to its release. Back in December, Aston Martin claimed the new car would produce 1000 horsepower—but they failed to include any other specs about it.

A hybrid system from a Croatian company

A lot of the aforementioned brag-worthy numbers come courtesy of the work that Croatian firm Rimac did in pairing a single-motor F1-style KERS hybrid system with a naturally aspirated, 6.5-liter V-12 engine capable of 11,100 RPM.

But wait, there’s more (to know)

The Valkyrie is expected to weigh just 2,200 pounds. It’s also expected to have an unrestricted max speed of 250+MPH. The car is still in development at the moment, but according to those working on the project, simulation tests of the system have been highly impressive. The car is estimated to be 80% near finished. Once complete, it will be taken to racetracks for testing.

Where does this new Valkyrie sit among the competition?

The Valkyrie is pretty even with the twin-turbo, V8 Koenigsegg Agera RS, which produces 1176HP. But as for bragging rights, the Valkyrie’s HP rating will be 130 more than the Speedtail, built by McLaren. Aston Martin said it will build 150 examples of the Valkyrie, all of which are already assigned to future owners.

And while the car won’t be adjusted for general road use, there are rumors circulating among the auto boards that it could hit the US roadways thanks to the Show and Display law.
