1964 Ferrari GTO Bites the Dust at Goodwood Revival (Video)

Do you hear that? It’s the sound of stacks of cash being dropped off at the repair shop to fix this vintage Ferrari.

The Goodwood Revival is something every automotive enthusiast should experience in their lifetime. The clash of Old World and automotive cultures produces a magical atmosphere that’s second to none. Needless to say, witnessing multi-million-dollar vintage sports car duke it out for bragging rights is pretty exciting, too.

These video and photos, courtesy of Goodwood Road & Racing and Silodrome, show a 1964 Ferrari GTO, partaking in one of many vintage races at the Revival. While most of the competitors know that these are more of “honorary races,” some of them become intoxicated by the spirit of competition. Some times these drivers, risking a bit more than they should, don’t always get away with it, either.

While this 250 GTO driver isn’t to be blamed for “going all out,” it seems like he could’ve taken it a bit easier at the braking point or the straight before it. Had he done that, the Ferrari’s front end probably wouldn’t have snapped as hard it did, leading him to put a tire on the grass and go for a wild ride.

Ultimately, the damage to one of the most expensive cars in the world looks quite dramatic but appears not structural. The most important parts of these holy grail vehicles are certainly the chassis and drivetrain, rather than the body. As long as these components are safe, the vehicle’s value will remain up.
Still, it doesn’t make the video less cringe-worthy!
