2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Details Leaked! (Video)

By -

Someone in the land down under pushed the “publish” button on accident, leading to the unintended leak of the hot new Porsche.

About a week ago someone at Drive, an Australian automotive news outlet, made a bit of a mistake and posted a story up about the forthcoming 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The latest and greatest super 911. The one that’s been the source of much speculation, and hope, especially when it comes to the manual transmission rumor. We’ll break it to you here: PDK only.

Now that we’ve gotten the bandage torn off (sorry manual transmission fans) we’ll get to the good stuff: Parker Nirenstein, of Vehicle Virgins on YouTube, gives us the details first reported at Motor1. Did they leak too? No, the good people at Motor1 managed to grab the details, and photos, from the Drive story before they took it down. In the words of Nirenstein, “this is the Internet ladies and gentlemen. When you post something you can’t just take it down.”

Now, before they get to the good Porsche bits Nirenstein spends a long while talking about the impressive McLaren Senna. While an amazing machine, we’re here for Porsche news. Skip to the 8:03 mark to get to the GT3 RS. We’ve queued up the video above to start there.

What did they change? The 4.0 liter flat six now pumps out 520 hp, 20 more than last year. Nirenstein notes, “the important part is the redline has been raised from 8,800 rpm to 9,000 rpm. Because why not.” Indeed! 9,000 rpm from a naturally-aspirated flat-six should sound downright amazing. The top speed has been raised 1 mph, and the 0-100 kph time has dropped a touch to 3.2 seconds. Nirenstein points out that’s probably conservative, saying, “we can probably expect 2.9 seconds 0-60 mph.”

When he breaks the news to his viewers about the lack of a manual transmission, he makes a good point. This thing is meant to be fast around a race track, and it’s likely a manual would only slow it down. He adds, “it’s unfortunate, but that’s what the Porsche gods have decided for us.”
