6SpeedOnline Thrashes Mustangs at the Thermal Club

By -

Nitto Tire wanted to showcase how good their tires are, so they tossed us the keys to some Mustang GTs and gave us a few sets of tires.

Tire reviews are tough. Unless it’s something like a specialty race tire, and you’re talking to a very niche audience, the whole thing falls apart after, about, the second sentence when you run out of descriptors beyond “round,” and “black.”

Nitto Tire understands this, and, as a result, instead chooses to do some pretty cool marketing campaigns. They put on events, like Auto Enthusiast Day. They make cool videos, like the Driver Battle series. Oh, and they do things like invite us out to the Thermal Club, so we can decimate… er… test their tires.

Nitto Tire The Thermal Club Mustang Mania

Well, actually, the 6SpeedOnline team was just a small part of the action. In addition to us, Nitto invited various social media influencers, each of whom drove Mustangs. To be specific, each drove a Mustang from a different generation, with every body style from 1965 to the present day accounted for. Oh, and Nitto also brought in Chelsea DeNofa and Vaughn Gittin Jr., Mustang drivers and Formula Drift pros, to assist in the tire-slaying action.

In between lapping the South Palm Circuit, and subsequently drifting around the skid pad for about an hour nonstop we learned that the 200-treadwear Nitto NT05 tires can take an absolute beating, even on the heavy, powerful Mustangs.

Of course, when it comes to drifting, DeNofa, Gittin Jr. and the 6Speed crew are all of the same mindset: Destroy all tires. So we did, and we have the burnout pictures and singed nose hairs to prove it.
