900 HP McLaren 720S Rips Quickest Quarter Mile Pass Yet

By -

It doesn’t take much to turn a 720S into a P1-shredding monster at the drag strip.

In the world of supercars, most of the focus remains on absolute top speed. It’s the number that gets bandied around more than any other, a sure sign of superiority. But few will ever come close to achieving those lofty numbers in their own cars, which require long, straight, barren roads to complete. In our humble opinion, measuring cars by their 0-60 and quarter mile times is much more realistic. And if you do it that way, this modded McLaren 720S is king of the strip.

DME Tuning claims that a Stage 2 flash, tune, cat delete, exhaust, and race gas is all it takes to reach a lofty 900 horsepower. And it’s not like a stock McLaren 720S is a slouch to begin with. In this clip, we see an unmodified car rip off an impressive 9.929-second pass at 140.94 miles per hour, in fact. But the modded McLaren, equipped with sticky Toyo R888R tires, takes it to a completely different level.

Well, not at first, anyway. The tuned car stumbles a bit on its first pass on the way to a 10.4-second elapsed time. But the second time around proves much better, as the DME car rips off a 9.59 @ 145.89 mph. And that was with a 7k rpm short shift! They give it another go and lose a tenth, so the team calls it a day.

Regardless, that pass might just be the quickest of not just any McLaren 720S, but any McLaren, period. It’s certainly faster than the P1, which completes the quarter mile in the 9.8-second range. And we’re betting this is only the beginning. Clearly, this particular car has more in it, and others won’t be far behind.
