Pair Of Tuned Porsche 930 Turbos Take A Shot At Roll Racing
Both 930 Turbo Porsches are pushing well over 600 horsepower and are ready to fight.
Some of us may debate how cool the newest models of Porsche 911 are, and whether they capture the purity of old. Despite that, one model which seems beyond reproach is the 930 Turbo. It might not have an RS or GT badge, it may not be as fast as a 918, but there’s no denying they ooze appeal. Two such cars were intercepted by That Racing Channel at the International Roll Racing Association’s inaugural event.
Adam, along with this friend Frank, were both trying out roll racing for the first time, and their cars are ready. Adam’s maroon 1984 930 Turbo is not only gorgeous, but also is moving about 650 horsepower to the rear wheels. The car was bought as an incomplete car, but then almost every nut and bolt on the engine was re-engineered and fabricated. It’s running E85 fuel, a Garrett GT3582r turbo and MS3 standalone engine management.
Frank’s Silver 1987 turbo was originally built for road racing, and shares quite a similarities mechanically with Adam’s 911. Frank’s car is a bit more powerful, at just over 700, and unlike Adam’s car, Frank’s is a survivor purchased in great condition with original paint.

Roll racing, as you’d expect, starts from a roll, and in this instance, the line to start the race is at the tree. Adam is first up, but things don’t quite go as smooth as planned. A prepped track combined with a stock clutch meant quite a bit of slipping occurred. It didn’t break though, so the slippage was the only thing to soil an otherwise good day.
Frank’s roll racing went perfectly. And, frank even took That Racing Channel for a few highway pulls on the roads outside of the track. All the turbo noise, gorgeous shapes, and appreciating value have us quite jealous of these two 930 Turbos.
