Acura’s Latest Supercar: Made in Ohio… Huh?!?
When you talk about supercars, your thoughts typically shift towards vehicles made in Italy. Sometimes Germany or Great Britain might come into the mix.
And if you’re thinking a Japanese brand supercar, you’re obviously going to think it’s built in Japan. With the new Acura NSX, though, one of the world’s most technologically advanced supercars is being built in Ohio. Yes, that Ohio.
I live in Ohio, which means I’m allowed to make fun of it. Honda has a huge presence in this state, being something like the third largest employer in the state. If you have a Honda Accord or Acura TL, it was built just down the highway from me.
Acura is doubling-down on Ohio; they’ve invested in building a totally new performance development center in Raymond, Ohio. That new development center even houses the wind tunnel used for testing.
In addition, they constructed a new Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Marysville, Ohio that sits alongside their production facility for their more pedestrian vehicle offerings.
The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is Honda’s home track, and the company has tested the new NSX there, along with other big name facilities.
It does fill me with a sense of pride to know that this unique car is going to be built in my state. They aren’t the only manufacturer in Ohio, and Jeep makes the iconic Wrangler in Toledo, but it’s cool to have the pride of saying that this new supercar is built here. Even if that does seem weird to outsiders.
