Autoblog’s Desert Date with the Lamborghini Veneno

Exclusivity is an interesting concept. Owning, let alone driving a Ferarri is an exclusive privilege. Even more exclusive than that? Owning a Bugatti Veyron. And as Autoblog puts things into greater perspective:

“Twelve humans have walked on the moon, yet only three humans will own a Lamborghini Veneno coupe.”

Just wrap your mind around that for a second. 3, out of the 6 billion people walking this earth will own a Lamborghini Veneno. And when Lamborghini themselves are claiming their $4 million hypercar to be “extremely exclusive”, you know it’s no joke (and as Autoblog puts it, a gross understatement).

And honestly, just look at it. Though Lamborghini admits it’s not an entirely clean slate design (based on its own Aventador, which stands at the pinnacle of automotive engineering in its own right), the Veneno is noted as an exercise in lightweight composite building technology.

It uses a proprietary carbon-fiber monocoque tub, an aggressively crafted carbon-fiber body, and an interior that features forged composite seats and woven carbon-fiber Carbonskin cloth.

The result? A lightweight monster of a car tipping the scales at 3,190 lb, a 6.5-liter v12 tuned to 750 horsepower, and a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds. Top speed, an absurd 221 mph.

I could go on all day about the absurdity (and utter amazing qualities) of this car, but I’d prefer to not continue speaking on it due to the pain in my gut, from realizing there’s a good chance that I’ll never even get to see one in person.
