In 1966, Ferrari took their 275 GTB Competizione to LeMans and smoked the competition outright. Now, 50 years after that win, that same car just sold at auction for loads of money.

According to Bonhams, the ’66 GTB sold for a total of $9,405,000 at the company’s most recent Scottsdale auction. Besides the class leading win at the most historic race out there, this GTB is rare due to Ferrari devising a last minute lighter chassis and double fuel tanks.

Add to that a special tune from the factory of 300 hp and you had the makings for a very successful Ferrari racecar.

While it’s not the most expensive classic Ferrari sold at auction in the last few years, it’s definitely showing a market trend that’s going up on vintage Ferraris.

Especially ones with racing pedigrees. I’m not sure if I even had the money I’d buy it. Think of all the other cool stuff you could buy with that kind of money?
