Ferrari 488 Pista Piloti is Thrill Ride for a Select Few

By -

Ferrari 488 Pista Piloti climbs the hill at Goodwood, thrilling all along the way.

There’s a new Ferrari in town, and it’s ready to bend every race track it touches to its will. For those involved with the Ferrari Challenge, they’ll have the 488 Pista Piloti available to do battle on the world’s famous circuits. Four color schemes mated to the Italian tricolore, a twin-turbo 3.9-liter, 720-horsepower V8, and carbon fiber for days make this Ferrari one special machine.

For YouTuber Shmee150, the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed is the perfect opportunity to experience for the first time “the special, rare, hardcore version of the popular mid-engine supercar, the 488 GTB.” And what better way to do so than as a passenger for the main attraction of the festival, the Goodwood Hillclimb.

Surrounded by other amazing Ferraris, the 488 Pista Piloti wears its motorsport pedigree on its sleeve. And its doors; the number 51 is on both doors, in honor of the No. 51 488 GTE-Pro’s many wins in the 2017-18 FIA World Endurance Championship. Its body, meanwhile, is decked-out in carbon fiber, from the front spoiler and rear diffuser, to the Michelin-wrapped carbon fiber wheels and air intakes. Trick aero bits like the S-duct up front, Alcantara seats, and tricolore paddle shifters complete the package.

But the real fun begins with the hill climb. With motorsport coach James Pickford at the helm, the 488 Pista Piloti roars up the hill with a “brilliant” sound, heard through even the thickest of helmets. The engine goes through the rev range as quick as a flash, and as Shmee150 says, “the performance is there in droves.”

The first time of anything is almost always a special affair, and this is true here, as well. If you’re one of the few competing in the Ferrari Challenge, then the 488 Pista Piloti needs to be in your garage as soon as possible.
