Technical Service Bulletin recalls are pretty common with the first years of new vehicles even for a hand-built Ferrari. Interesting perspective is that the new high rate of generational turnover for vehicle models is also bringing another high rate of recalls. Instead of a five to seven year model run, today we are seeing a two to three year model run where cars aren’t produced long enough to work out the all design flaws through recalls. Though the first couple years shows a lot so let’s hear what Ferrari’s problem is this week.

Earlier this week Ferrari released a TSB recall to NHTSA over a defective fuel line’s fire risk on their 2016 California T models. This recall not surprisingly was just released for Ferrari’s other most recent turbocharged iteration the 488 GTB. Both models have been issued a stop-sale order for North America by their Maranello headquarters until all models have been serviced.

Yes, one might think forced-induction is more stress on the engine producing more problems however it wasn’t and I’m glad. Ferrari has been working with turbos for over four decades and is a household name for them which I’m happy wasn’t tarnished. It was a small fuel line problem that is a easy fix unlike Volkswagen Emissions-Gate which takes redevelopment of their electronics which could take years. Who really knows?

Autoevolution shared with us the recall information handed to NHTSA by Ferrari stated that a low-pressure fuel line might not be joined properly to the fuel pump feed pipe resulting misconnection and an explosive ending. Under 200 California Turbos were affected and no number for 488 GTBs affected but overall this is a small hiccup Ferrari will be sure to see through each car’s service properly.

If you’re a California or GTB owner make sure to contact your local service department to start the recall process and information. I imagine they can send you documents via e-mail same day for assurance and comfort. Best of luck! Share with us your experience and if you find yourself in this Italian Job.
