Fulfill Your Racing Dreams with the 911 GT3 R
If this weekend’s 24 Hours of Nurburgring made you catch the racing bug and you’ve got $491,000 of disposable income, then Porsche has a car for you: the new 911 GT3 R.
This 500 horsepower customer race car is based on the production 911 GT3 RS and features improved aerodynamic efficiency, better handling and more safety equipment.
The car’s wheelbase has been lengthened by over three inches, offering a more balanced weight distribution and better high-speed handling when compared to the previous GT3 R.
An aluminum-steel composite chassis is wrapped in carbon-fibre body panels and all of the windows, including the front windshield, are made of polycarbonate. It’s time to buy those windscreen tear-aways!
At the heart of the beast is a naturally-aspirated 4-liter flat-six engine, similar to the one found in the road-legal 911 GT3 RS. Porsche’s sequential six-speed constant-mesh gearbox sends power to the Michelin wrapped rear wheels.
Helping with aerodynamic balance is a 6.5 feet rear wing and a bevy of vents and canards.
The GT3 R’s fuel cell has been further reinforced and now features a safety cut-off valve to mitigate flash fires during refueling or in the unfortunate event of a crash.
If you’re itching to race in a GT3 series or just want to destroy everyone at a track day, Porsche is taking orders for the 911 GT3 R and deliveries will begin in December 2015.
