The T.50 having a V12 that revs out to 12,100 rpm is just the start of the insanity.

When it comes to building crazy fast cars, Gordon Murray has one hell of a track record. He has a literal track record in Formula 1, and is the man behind one of the greatest road cars ever made, the McLaren F1. The focus of his company, Gordon Murray Design, has been on what it calls “lightweighting” and Aerodynamics. For the V12 engine, the company has brought in Cosworth to delivery the highest revving V12 engine to go into a road car.Gordon Murray's T.50 Supercar Has Mind-blowing Specs

The Cosworth-built naturally aspirated 3.9-liter V12 makes 654 hp and 344 lb-ft of torque, which is far from a mind-blowing pair of numbers in these modern times. The fact it revs out to 12,100 rpm and the car weighs less than a current-generation Mazda Mx-5 makes this a different breed of supercar. And this is just what we know before the T.50 is officially unveiled on August 4.

We also know that only 100 will be built, so while the T.50 challenges the existing paradigm of supercars, it won’t be a common sight on the road.

According to Gordon Murray Automotive, the car weighs in under 2,200 lbs and is matched to the free-revving V12. The T.50 will deliver “unrivalled power-to-weight, ” which results in the purest, most driver focused supercar ever made.”

The company also talks about the T.50’s aerodynamics, which draws on race car experience and is described as being “The most advanced aerodynamics seen on a road car.” It will undoubtedly be the first time we’ve seen a 400mm ground-effect fan being used on public roads.
Mixed with an engine that makes all its torque available at 2,000 rpm and capable of hitting 12,100 rpm from idle in 0.3 seconds, the T.50 promises to be one hell of an experience for those lucky enough to drive one.

His obsession with cars started young and has left him stranded miles off-road in Land Rovers, being lost far from home in hot hatches, going sideways in rallycross cars, being propelled forward in supercars and, more sensibly, standing in fields staring at classic cars. His first job was as a mechanic and then trained as a driving instructor before going into media production.

The automotive itch never left though, and he realized writing about cars is his true calling. However, that doesn’t stop him from also hosting the Both Hand Drive podcast.
