In the epic battle of keeping up with the Joneses, Ferrari has decided to replace the epic 458 Italia (and all of its variants) with the 488 GTB.

Gone is the naturally aspirated V8, and is replaced by a twin-turbo unit. Officially shown off in the flesh in Geneva, we now have an idea of what the new car will sound like.

Of course, Ferrari is claiming that their 661 horsepower, entry level mid-engined sports car, is still going to offer the same soulful experience that came with the prior 458.

The turbo mill only revs to 8,000 RPM, which is still more than most cars today, but not as high as the 9,000 RPM from the previous car. Turbochargers also affect the sound coming out of the exhaust, and it’s fair to say that it sounds… different.

The video shows off some of their new active aero technologies that’ll make its way to the car. Gratuitous power slides are also there to show you that this car still means fun.

Changing emission and fuel economy regulations are forcing a lot of manufacturers to reconsider how they produce their cars. For a niche company like Ferrari, that means taking some drastic steps.

The 488 GTB is the natural progression of their work, even if they aren’t really a fan of turbo charging themselves.

What do you think? Does it make your fizzy bits fizz? Let us know in the forums!
