Matt LeBlanc to Join Multi-National Top Gear Host Team

As if the death of Toyota’s Scion brand didn’t depress enough automotive enthusiasts this week, an early news release confirmed that former ‘Friends’ star and self-proclaimed petrol head, Matt LeBlanc will co-host in the new Top Gear series.

While no one really knows what to expect in the post Clarkson-May-Hammond era, one thing is clear about the BBC’s decision to choose LeBlanc—money. It ultimately came down to simple economics, and the BBC’s ability to monetize the show in more countries around the globe, in which an American such as Matt LeBlanc will be of huge leverage when negotiating juicy broadcasting contracts.

Matt LeBlanc is a regular at Formula One paddocks across the globe, and a common sight at many motorsport VIP functions as well. Which leads us to believe that he isn’t doing this solely for money, but he actually digs this stuff.

With Sabine Schmitz not yet confirmed, David Coulthard ruled out, and Chris Evans experiencing multiple issues, who knows what’s really going to happen.

And on that bombshell!
