Sibling Rivalry: The McLaren 12C vs The McLaren 650S
With their recent announcements to develop a baby McLaren P13. and now, with the countless discussions surrounding the “brand new” 650S we’ve definitely seen a mixed bag of praises and lamentations. You know, “they’re diluting the brand,” “They sold their souls to hybrids,” that sort of rabble.
I suppose though, when your company’s MO has been to systematically create nothing but extreme, one-off, record-breaking, pinnacle-standing hypercars, hearing about hybrids, entry level models, and mid rangers can be a little disheartening.
That’s my opinion anyway. Recently though, we stumbled on a great article on Jalopnik’s Oppositelock series, where they nitpick at the differences between the 12C and its now younger brother, the 650S.
It would appear the 650S is pulling a lot of styling and design cues from its older siblings, the 12C and P1, but I suspect we’ll start to see subtle refreshes across the board as McLaren looks to consolidate their design identity. As one of the commentors note, how very Aston Martin of them.
Don’t care though. Still gorgeous.
