Meeting Your Hero Car: RUF RT12S

By -

Chasing your hero car can be a fun pursuit, but as one RUF RT12S owner finds out, not all cars live up to the dream once you own it.

The dream car is the one you had on your wall as a kid, or that you fell in love with as a teen. The RUF RT12S is definitely a car to dream about. It starts its life as a Porsche 997 chassis. German car manufacturer RUF can build one from scratch or you can send your Porsche 911 to be made into a RT12S. The car uses the 3.6 liter twin-turbo flat six cylinder engine from the Porsche 911 Turbo. The modifications start by making the 3.6 into a 3.8 liter and upgrading the turbos. They offer two power options: 685 horsepower and 730 horsepower. The active Porsche suspension is taken out and a custom set of RUF suspension replaces it. So, it may seem like just power and suspension until you see the bodywork.

The outside of the RUF RT12S is completely custom with unique bumpers and air intakes. Inside the interior is completely new with RUF seats, steering wheel, shifter, and electronics. There is even a roll cage RUF integrates into the car. So, in the end RUF builds you a thoroughly re-engineered car, and a very fast one at that. The RUF RT12S does 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds and will reach a top speed of 227 mph. So, this car sounds amazing right? The stuff people dream about in a supercar, but what if it wasn’t?

In this video, YouTube channel VinWiki has a chat with Ed Bolian who did exactly this. He was chasing a RUF RT12S for a very long time. When he finally got the car he had dreams about one day owning it was a bit of a let down. So, check out the video to see what he has to say about making the most profit on a car ever, but losing a dream. Let us know what you think in the comments.
