Monster 1,800-HP Lamborghini Nearly Go Airborne During Drag Race
Laws of physics can be quite the fickle mistress, and she apparently likes pair of 65 mm Garret turbos on a Lamborghini 5.2-liter V10.
When you hear about a crazy drag car pulling a huge wheelie down the strip, you probably imagine a stripped muscle car with a massive blower hanging out the hood. This video, from That Racing Channel on YouTube, features an entirely different sort of beast. This is a Lamborghini Huracán, an AWD mid-engine supercar from Italy, and it is out here dropping mid 7-second runs all day.
The car actually started life as a film mule for the Netflix show Hyperdrive. This is the biggest reason it was turned into a drag rocket. When the current owner got the car he wanted to know “what are we gonna do with a caged Lambo?” The answer apparently is to strap a pair of massive 65 mm Garret turbochargers to the 5.2-liter V10 and take it drag racing.
Total power for this car is sitting somewhere in the range of 1800 horsepower. To handle the extra power, most of the driveline has been upgraded with performance parts from Dodson Motorsports. Throw on a set of sticky drag tires, and it’s off to the races.
Every run in this video is worth watching. From the massive burnout on preparation, to the car fighting and twitching all the way down the drag strip, it is obvious that this monster is barely under control. It is horsepower and speed in the rawest form, all struggling to rip the car apart as it tries to spin the earth in reverse.
And of course, there is the wheelie. Not every run begins with a near vertical flip, thankfully, but the first major run of the video shows the nose of this Huracán point skyward before bouncing down the strip. Even with this, driver Jordan manages to keep the car pointed the right direction and launches down the strip, instead of stuffing it into a wall.
Every time this car crosses the line, the time is 7.7 or less, with speeds over 180 mph. This Raging Bull is truly special.
