Nitto’s Battle of the Streets of Los Angeles
Although I’m not a “real sports” fan per see, I am a fan of bracket battling. It’s one of the purest forms of competition. Essentially, you take a group of teams, pit them against each other, and the two last standing go for all the glory. While most of this is relegated to the traditional sports arena, it just so happens that Nitto Tire wants to change that.
This year Nitto invited 16 of the world’s fastest streetcars to Los Angeles for a “Battle of the Streets” shootout. To set the event off right, Nitto persuaded the city of Los Angeles to close the 6th Street Bridge, then supplied the cars with a set of Nitto Tires, and put them in the round robin bracketing to face off against one another.
The competition among the cars was tight, especially when you consider the bracket was full of supercars, muscles cars, and European exotics all going head to head on the streets of LA.
“The tournament consists of three elimination rounds taking place on March 26th-27th, March 30th-31st, and April 2nd during which time the two brackets, named after Nitto’s highly popular NT05 and NT555 performance street tires, will be whittled down to the top two cars before culminating with the Finals on Monday, April 6th. During these two and a half weeks of competition, enthusiasts will be treated to some truly unique matchups between some of the most impressive cars on the street. This year’s field includes such heavyweights as the McLaren 650S, the Porsche GT3, the Ford GT, the Saleen GTX, and the Lamborghini Aventador. But you can’t count out the domestic muscle and other possible underdogs waiting to disrupt the field and upset the highly favored supercars.”
However, Nitto has a twist to the competition. Rather than just letting you sit back and watch the show, Nitto wants you to play along at home and root for your favorite cars. Essentially, you pick your bracket of cars, watch the races, and continue your quest for dominance among the other players.
To make things a bit more interesting and fun, whoever wins the tournament will not only get bragging rights, but also get a trip to Vegas to run in Exotics Racing Experience.
