A recent hot commodity on Bring-a-Trailer now is this restored museum-grade 1976 Lamborghini Urraco P200 brandishing a tiny Italian-spec 2.0L V8. Out of the 800 assembled for international sale during the 1970’s there are only 65 like this Italian market example in the world. Who knows what color or condition those are in; what a find!

Lamborghini devoted a lot of energy to the development of this less expensive entry-level sportscar during the years before launch. Mr. Lamborghini’s dream was to bring an affordable sports car to the masses. He wanted to compete with the Porsche 911 and Ferrari’s little Dino. They fell short of their target to sell thousands for all sorts of factors inside and outside their company making this a fine artifact and a conversation piece to add to your fleet.

A slightly larger 2.5L V8 engine was fitted into the Urraco’s little footprint for all out-of-Italy market models making this Italian-spec 2.0L ultra-rare and super collectable. Italian emission restrictions taxed vehicles heavily over 2.0L. Shrinking each bank down to 250cc got around cock-blocking laws in Italy to still have a V8.

Lambo detuned the motor to meet standards. As a result it fell out of contention against Stuttgart and Maranello. This not only killed the mini jab up to speed, not even a punch most reviewers reported. They felt it wasn’t on the same level as the more affordable 911 and Dino. You can now achieve upwards to 160 to 180 MPH in minorly tuned Toyota Camry V6 making this Lambo purchase not for speed but for quality of age-old automotive craftsmanship.

This particular Urraco has undergone a thorough examination and rehabilitation. Focusing mostly on the powertrain with an out-of-body overhaul to the V8 along with that the cooling, braking and Campagnolo wheel systems have been rehabbed.

Only 600 miles broken-in since overhaul with just under 25K miles on whole vehicle hasn’t seen a lot of rough days making the interior a pure untouched time machine. Happy Bidding!
