You don’t often expect to see Porsche in non-racing games, but this collaboration with Overwatch 2 is pretty interesting.

It feels like it wasn’t all that long ago that licensing issues prevented Porsche vehicles from appearing in a host of racing games. All of us gaming enthusiasts got a sigh of relief when Porsche made its return to Forza. That all makes perfect sense, but this collaboration with Overwatch 2 is not something any of us saw coming.

Porsche announced that it teamed with Blizzard Entertainment, the game developer behind Overwatch 2, to bring the legendary Porsche name and styling to a game that you wouldn’t quite expect to find it in.

“Overwatch 2 offers a sophisticated backstory, and players can easily identify with the characters. These were important building blocks for us to create a brand collaboration with Blizzard and tell a story inspired by the new all-electric Macan,” said Deniz Keskin, Head of Brand Management and Partnerships at Porsche.

The collaboration effort is coming to the game this Spring and includes a host of Porsche-inspired elements. This includes two skins for a fan-favorite character, D.Va, which includes styling elements from the new all-electric Porsche Macan. The skin has a number of styling elements from the Macan, including its head and tail lights. However, a closer look at it reveals elements inspired by Macan’s interior components, such as suspension and brakes.

“Porsche’s design philosophy blends wonderfully with how we approach our hero designs in Overwatch 2. D.Va’s mech was designed to optimize function on top of visual beauty that fits in a futuristic world, which naturally speaks to Porsche’s visual style and design,” said Tina Wei, concept artist on the Overwatch team.

More Porsche Influence Coming Soon

Blizzard will release more Porsche-inspired skins in the near future, too. From the concept art, it appears that one draws its inspiration from the Cayman and sports a Martini Racing livery. For Porsche fans who enjoy Overwatch 2, it’s hard to imagine something more ideal than integrating the iconic blue, red, and white color scheme.

Porsche is currently displaying a life-size statue of the Macan-inspired mech at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. Overall, it’s a pretty interesting collaboration that we certainly did not see coming. We’re here for it, though! If you’re an avid player of Overwatch 2, get ready to collect some Porsche swag!
