With a name more reminiscent of a comic book than something you’d see in real life, this is some seriously exciting news for Lexus. Here’s why.

We know Lexus has been working with Gazoo racing to build an “enhanced sports car research vehicle” to be entered into this year’s Nürburgring 24 hour race. We also know the LFA’s familiar, banshee howling 4.8-liter V10 powerplant will be bored out to 5.3 liters and include a full carbon frame to make the racecar’s body as rigid, yet light as a Russian ballet teacher’s wrath.

But we’re also learning the car’s upgrades include a longer wheelbase than the standard LFA and the newly bored engine is expected to utilize an astronomically high 12,000 rpm redline.

To say Lexus is taking this year’s race seriously is the understatement of the year.

More intriguing yet are the possibilities behind these updates. With Toyota’s displaying of the LF-LC concept running alongside their HUGE FT-1 Concept announcement in Detroit, we’d like to believe there’s going to be a huge slew of drool-worthy performance models coming down the pipeline from the Japanese automaker.
