Porsche Confirms Martini Livery Available to 918

So our eyes weren’t deceiving us. Earlier in the month we spotted the 918 prototype roaming the Nurburgring with Martini’s racing livery in monochrome. Today, Porsche has let the scoop slip on their partnership with one of their oldest and most successful sponsors. The lucky few who are able to buy the 918 will be able to buy to get it in the classic red and blue. Notably, this is the first deal between Porsche and Martini since their partnership ended 1978. Prior to that, the Martini/Porsche combo won the Sports Car World Championship in 1976 and the 24 hours of Le Mans in ’76 and ’77.

Of course, that raises the question as to whether or not the 918 will be able to participate in these famous races with it’s hybrid drive-train. With the exception of the LMP Class, there aren’t that classes that feature hybrids. That might end up changing though.

Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar, even Lexus are building hybrid sports cars. Considering the amount of brand cachet racing has won for all of them, I’d expect to see them all on the track against each other at some point. Heresy? Maybe, but if they end up sounding like this, then I think we’ll be juuust fine.
