Rumors Surround Porsche’s Trio of New Flat-Fours
According to Car magazine, there are at least three, four-bangin’, engine trims on the horizon. They’ll all be direct injected and turbocharged and totally capable of embarrassing every Subaru from here to Shinjuku. Probably.
The smallest of the trio is a 1.6-liter H4 accompanied by a 2-liter and a 2.5-liter. Speculatively, they’ll make as much as 360 horsepower out of the 2.5-liter. Considering that the Cayman GTS makes 340 horsepower, it should be an easy transition. The 2-liter will likely make around 286 horsepower and 295-lb-ft of torque—a touch more than the current base model Cayman. The 1.6-liter is the odd block out. Car magazine reckons Porsche’ll rate the thing for 210 bhp, which makes it under powered for anything they’re currently offering. Is a new small car ? Or perhaps Porsche will loan that engine out to the rest of the VW group.
If these rumors are true, then the future for the Cayman are actually looking pretty good. I think people will miss the naturally aspirated feel of the flat-six, but they’ll probably get over it quickly enough. What do you think?
