RAESR is Yet Another Startup Trying to Build a HyperEV

Promotion and advertising is an interesting beast, especially for car manufacturers that nobody has ever heard of and that have never made a car before. In an age of countless computer renderings, meaningless Internet claims, and pointless announcement, it’s almost necessary to have a completely built car that you can test and showoff to the public before staking your claim. The problem with that is then the company has no hype or buildup around its car. It’s a fine line that another new startup is currently trying to toe.

Rice Advanced Engineering Systems and Research (RAESR) Automotive unveiled its plans for its Tachyon Speed electric hypercar at the Geneva International Motor Show, and the claims are pretty outrageous. For $850,000, you get a completely carbon fiber car with a 2-speed gearbox at each wheel and a possible two megawatt 800VDC battery pack.

According to RAESR, the car is modular, so it can be built as one of two options: A rear-wheel-drive track car that weighs less than 2,000 pounds and has 930 horsepower or an all-wheel-drive hypercar with more than 2,680 horsepower (not a typo) and can go more than 310 mph (not a typo). Of course, the company doesn’t actually have a physical example to show off yet, because WHY WOULD THEY.

The company is based out of Los Angeles, and the website and press release say production is starting this summer, but it’s just one of those things nobody will believe until there’s one on a track proving itself.
