Be Recognized for Driving a Porsche in Australia

If you live in Australia and drive a Porsche, you should take a ride up to the Melbourne airport to check out a new advertisement. An electronic billboard recognizes that you’re approaching in a Porsche vehicle, and shows you a picture designed just for you, flattering you for having the good taste to buy a Porsche.

Designed by Australian company oOh!, a series of cameras up the road view every car about to pass under the billboard. By using vehicle recognition, it determines if you’re driving a Porsche. Then, at the appropriate time it pops up an image saying, “It’s so easy to pick you out in a crowd.”

But what if you don’t have a Porsche and drive by? You see the normal rotation of ads, including a spot from Porsche promoting they are Motor Magazine‘s performance car of the year.

Clearly designed to flatter the ego of someone driving by, the billboard offers a unique gimmick to promote the brand and reward people for buying one. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen customized billboards, though. MINI did personalized billboards before.

It is nice to be recognized by a manufacturer for purchasing their vehicle. Some send goody bags with cool stuff after buying. What do you think about the billboard? Is it a good move or just a publicity stunt?
