Remembering the Insanity of the 2012 Texas Invitational

By -

There are two places in the world that I can think of where street cars over 1000hp are considered “normal.” There’s the Unlim 500+ contest at the Moscow Mile in Russia (MegioN would know all about that), and there’s the Texas Invitational. If winning the Unlim 500 is the holy grail of high-speed dig racing, then KOTS is the holy grail of high-speed racing at a roll. For good reason too. These cars are animals.

I mean, there’s got to be something to like here for everyone. Who doesn’t want to see a 1600 hp UGR Gallardo race a 1250hp McChip Porsche down a runway? A man without a soul, that’s who.

Not your cup of tea? How about Mullet’s bat-shit 1200 HP Ford GT. It would be easier to list the mods it doesn’t have. Of course, the competition is an equally ridiculous 1150 horsepower Viper.

Still not entertained? Well, how about the 1138 horsepower GT-R from EVS motors. Hell, for TI that’s not even that outrageous. Neither is the 1000 horsepower Mustang it runs against. Since they’re not racing from a dig, the AWD advantage of the GT-R is lessened. Did I mention that Mustang was a fox body? Convertible?

And how could I forget the winner from last year? LMR’s 2000hp Twin Turbo Corvette. Dear God.

The Texas invitational is awesome. It’s not often that you so many amazing cars and drivers in the same space without unwanted police attention.   I know I’m looking forward to the action come April. What about you? Let us know what you want to see at TI in the comments below.
