Skilled Sim Drifter Shreds Championship-Winning S15 Silvia Drift Car
Winner of a virtual drifting competition got a full day of drifting alongside 2021 Drift Masters European champion, Piotr Więcek.
Consider yourself a fancy sim driver and looking to get into some sideways competition? Look no further than the Drift Masters Virtual Championship that will be starting up again for 2022 in January.
Why? Well, for one lucky winner of the competition, there is an opportunity to take your virtual skill and transfer it onto a real race track. The winner of the 2021 Championship, Rhys Tatterson, recently got a chance few drift enthusiasts will ever be able to even dream of.
Joined by Drift Masters European Championship 2021 Champion, Piotr Wiecek, Tatterson got a chance to drive his championship-winning Worthouse S15 Silvia at the Jastrzab Autodrome in Poland.
Considering the fact that Tatterson competed in a modified S15 in the virtual championship, the Worthouse S15 is basically a match made in heaven. Thanks to the Drift Masters European Championship‘s YouTube, we got the chance to see this special moment occur.
From zero to hero
Before the inaugural 2021 season of the Drift Masters Virtual Championship, Rhys Tatterson was a relatively unknown name. However, after starting with 96 drivers at the beginning of the season with only one champion to rule them all, Tatterson quickly made his name known.
Although obviously nervous for his initial debut, Tatterson knew that he had to simply keep an open mind about the experience. “I’m going to see how it goes, going to have fun, enjoy it and we’ll see what happens. Just go for it,” stated Tatterson.
Now that is a drifter’s mindset in a nutshell. After a quick seat fitting and an introduction to Wiecek, Tatterson was already in awe with the 900 HP S15 and it still hadn’t even been turned on yet.
“It’s my first time being in a car like this, in this spec- it’s madness! I’m speechless, to be honest,” he stated. Also his second-ever experience in a left-hand drive car.
The best first drifting experience ever?
However, before his first lap out, Wiecek decided to first take Rhys as a passenger to display the capabilities of the Worthhouse S15. After the coolest introduction ever, Tatterson was grinning cheek-to-cheek and ready to take on the Silvia.
You can see as Piotr looks very cautiously from the passenger seat before Rhys tests the acceleration of the S15 for the first time. Obviously, a 900 HP race car is still a lot to handle for even the most experienced drivers, but as we soon will see, there is a reason Rhys won his championship.
After some further orientation in the chassis, Rhys goes off to try his first donut in the car around the roundabout section of the track. Piotr is obviously pleasantly surprised by Rhy’s quick learning and intuitive driving, keeping a nice wide circle with ease while working the throttle pedal.
His only reaction after seeing Tatterson’s smooth steering input was “Oh my word!” followed by copious amounts of laughter. We can see Wiecek show some instant stress relief knowing Rhys can handle his championship-winning race car.
Shredding in the zone
Next Piotr instructs him to attempt an entry with clutch kicking, which Rhys proceeds to execute with absolute ease. Even though this was his first experience in the car and in a real drift car in general, Tatterson demonstrated the throttle control of a seasoned veteran.
As he continued to link corner after corner, Piotr can be seen overcome with joy while shaking his head end in complete disbelief of Rhys’ natural talent. Wiecek states after finally coming in for a cooldown in the pits, “I was like, okay, he’s a natural. He was doing it like he’s doing it for 3 or 4 years or even more.”
You can’t really ask for much more of a compliment from a championship-winning pro drifter. However, the fun was far from over. The S15 then received a fresh set of tires as Rhys was allowed to go out on his own for the first time.
After another successful session alone on track, Piotr pops a magic question most drift junkies would kill to be asked by a pro drift champion, “we could maybe try some tandem?” As a final surprise, Piotr hops in the Worthouse R34 GT-R to join Rhys on track for some sweet door-banging action.
Tandem with a drift legend, can you ask for more?
After getting to both chase down Piotr and be the lead car, Tatterson finally comes into the pits, stunned by the opportunity he just got to experience. Definitely the stuff of dreams for any drifting enthusiast.
Think you might have what it takes to take the championship yourself and win a similar experience? Well, the 2022 Drift Masters Virtual Championship grand prize is even crazier than the one offered for 2021.
This time, the virtual champion will actually get the chance to compete in the Worthouse S15 during the 2022 Drift Masters European Championship final event. Talk about a crazy prize!
