The Speciale Aperta is an Insanely Fast Drop Top
Get ready for your ridiculously awesome Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta, or your drop top Speciale! Set to officially debut next month at the Paris Motor Show, the new car finally showed what was hiding under all that camo we’ve been seeing.
The new car, of which only 499 units will be made, uses the same engine that the hardtop Speciale uses producing 597 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Power is still sent to the rear wheels and gives the Speciale A a 0-62 in just 3 seconds flat. What’s even more impressive is that the drop top still manages to complete a lap of Fiorano in exactly the same time as the hardtop.
The new retractable roof is made from aluminum and can deploy and retract in just 14 seconds. All of this is even more impressive when you consider that the drop top gained about 110 lbs after losing its roof.
The fact that the Speciale Aperta is just as quick as its sibling, just as rigid, and had to gain a bit of weight makes me believe the Ferrari engineers are practicing some form of dark voodoo magic and that this car is a byproduct of that magic.
The rest of the car will take shape when it’s officially debuted to the public next month in Paris.
