Subaru BRZ GT300 Runs Laps in Race Trim at Fuji Speedway
Subaru video shows the 2021 BRZ GT300 Racing prototype running laps on the legendary Japanese track.
Subaru’s contribution to motorsport is the stuff of legends. The company has produced many race cars over the years, which have dominated the World Rally Car championships on several occasions. The company’s association with rally legends like Petter Solberg and Richard Burns has brought us moments that continue to inspire up-and-coming racing drivers around the world.
The Japanese carmaker is now focusing its efforts on circuit racing. Earlier this week, Subaru uploaded a video showcasing the latest BRZ GT300 Racing prototype on the company’s official YouTube channel. The video shows the 2021 BRZ GT300 racer running laps on the legendary Fuji Speedway. The racer has been designed to participate in the Super GT championship, which happens to be Japan’s premier endurance GT racing series.
For now, the company has refrained from divulging any details about the 2021 BRZ GT300 and its specifications. During the 2020 season, the race car’s predecessor was powered by a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine. This race-tuned turbocharged motor produced 345.2 HP of maximum power.
Subaru has confirmed that a larger 2.4-liter motor will power the 2021 racing prototype, which will probably be turbocharged for the competition, just like the previous GT racer. The road-going 2022 Subaru BRZ also comes equipped with a 2.4-liter direct-injection powerplant, which produces 228 HP and 184 lb-ft of peak torque.
The front-end of the race car gets a large splitter, yellow-tinted headlights, and an all-new redesigned grill. The racer gets a widebody kit that comes with flared wheel arches that accommodate BRZ GT300’s all-black racing alloys. The body kit easily distinguishes BRZ GT300 from the road car, thanks to its large size skirts. The race car’s rear-end is dominated by a large wing that flaunts STI performance Livery.
Subaru BRZ GT300 will make its racing debut In April at the Okayama International Circuit. The company celebrated a very successful 2020 season, which means the new 2021 prototype definitely has its work cut out. In addition to multiple podium finishes in the 2020 season, the last BRZ racer also secured a pole position in Motegi. We will know more details about the racer’s performance once Subaru finishes its pre-season testing.
