The $116,500 Parking Spot in the Middle of the Desert

Us mortals park our rides curbside, or at its best—in a garage, but the upper crust likes to go about it a bit differently. They head out to the desert and pay upwards of $100,000 for a fingerprint-locked auto vault.

Palm Desert is home to the Bighorn Golf Club, and like most top-notch golf clubs in the middle of nowhere, it’s expensive, and it’s surrounded by expensive homes whose owners inhabit them ten days all year. How expensive? If you want set foot on this green, it’ll set you back an eye-watering quarter-million, and homes range from a measly 1.7 million to over 20 million. But there’s only one problem, where will the 1% park their precious sheet metal?

Is a 24,000 square-foot, climate controlled and bio-metrical-locked vault acceptable? Many exotic car owners and Bighorn members seem to think so (no outsiders allowed), as there is a waiting list to pay the $110,000 dollar buy-in fee, along with a $6,500 yearly due to simply park your car.

Once accepted into the rich kids garage, you have access to a swanky and car-themed lounge (just like the one at Carmax) and even play on a high-tech driving simulator. Because you couldn’t get all of that built at your mansion for less money, right?

Inside the museum-like garage you’ll find a custom Chip Foose Ford roadster, a few Ferraris, including a king-of-the-castle LaFerrari, and a stunning McLaren Mercedes SLR.

The saying “build it and they will come” has turned out to be true…
