Going from a 997.2 to a 70's/80's 911 sc
Hi guys, I recently sold my 997.2 Carrera S which was my daily driver. I now have a different daily driver but I want to get a 70's/80's Porsche Carrera as a weekend car. I want to make it more on the side of a track car(it may see 1 or 2 track days but mostly be driven in the canyons near me on the weekends). I want it to be fast, loud, and wide bodied. I would love it if it can also be my daily driver. Anyone have any tips on what to do, not to do, what to use, not to use, etc? I'm really at square one here...looking for a car to start with and then looking into what parts,l and who's labor, to go with.
All advice is helpful ! |
I like this idea. Most Porsche mechanical books cover the SC really well. I remember seeing a wrapped SC in grassroots motorsports many moons ago

Find a great car. Consider 87-88 3.2 Carrera w the G50 trans. Do a nice suspension upgrade; aggressive street set up, track friendly as well. Steve Wong chip and cat bypass. And there you go...

Thanks for the tips ! Does anyone know of any good shops to do this sort of thing in the SF Bay Area?

find a 930 and call it a day

Yeah, I had thought of just going the 930 route but in order to spend that kind of cash, I need to wait until my other car sells first. (unless anyone with a 930 wants to trade?) https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...obra-sale.html

Sounds like you sold your other car, so are you gonna go for a 930? :)
|
Haha yep it sold pretty quickly. As for the 930, I might be able to pick one up because A. I would drive it more than the one I just sold and B. I can park it outside (so it doesn't take garage space)
The only problem is that all the ones I've seen that I like have pretty steep asking prices |
I want to sell the 997.2 C4S 6 speed coupe and replace it with an '89 3,2 coupe........

Sounds like you're better off looking for a well sorted and modified car. One that has some decent upgrades you can build upon and add your own personal touches. I bought a widebody 1983 SC just for that purpose. Someone already did all the suspension upgrades along with an upgraded built engine and cage. I'm going to change the exterior to a long nose back date and finish the interior the way I want it. Since it's modded and not stock or original there's no hesitation with making suit your own personal taste. I looked at 930s (and still looking), but as much as they have gone up in value, I personally would leave a 930 stock for resale.
