I guess! I had them on our 986, and then swapped them over to the 987. i couldn't get rid of them, they look that good.

Man walks into a bar. He starts talking about a biturbo 9146gt. Bartender says:"You can't turbo a 914" Man walks out of bar. Man comes to 6speedonline.

Sounds like it might be fun! Post some details and pictures.

iJeremy 11-08-2007 12:59 PM

Pics?... Or did the man leave 6speedonline as well?

maltese falcon 11-15-2007 09:52 PM

Man is actually under his 914 every night re-engineering the old outdated IHI turbos with some new Turbonetics GTKs:D
Eventually this site will be as easy to post up jpegs as other 914 sites that I surf. There are some pics of the balck GT , just do a search on Maltese Falcon or posts by Luis (he hosted some pics for me).
...back to the creeper:)

I remember seeing a few on the road, but it's been a couple years since I have seen a 914 on the road.

GTflyer_06 04-22-2008 09:56 PM

Respect the 914 ...

Been a little while since I drove one ... and even longer since I owned one ... but I still have a soft spot for the lowly 914.

I'm one of those odd birds who likes Europeans from Germany, Italy, and England! (Driving an Alfa GTV-6 presently.)

unitfreebie 06-12-2008 12:04 AM

Rarer than a Ferrari ... on the town, that is!

Yesterday, I saw one for the first time in about 3 years... very rare car on the road! I see more Ferrari than 914's here!!!:D

Synchzilla 12-05-2008 02:48 PM

Saw a white one a couple of years back cruising around in Panama City Beach, but it was rusted to hell. I'm echoing someone else's point, but I've seen more Ferraris than 914s (including Kanye West's yellow Enzo when I got to stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel.) Seeing the garage in that hotel is worth the ridiculous price of a room there.

Kanye has terrible taste for colors.

HidetheKeys 12-05-2008 04:44 PM

I would like to have a 914 to drive around on sunny days! :D

Maybe that could be my project car.... o.O

I take a few drinks over at the Chateau Marmont Hotel / Sunset Strip, and their garage aint too shabby !
Here's an undershot of my biturbo-6, just before the straight pipes went on.

I had a 75 2.0 and loved it. what a great car and well balanced. problem underpowered. with big motor that would have been a blast. Had a friend but in 350 in it and 930 turbo flares. That was fine car.

smj 12-08-2008 06:25 PM

I like it!

I have a '74 914-4 2.0, stock save for KYB shocks, Riviera wheels, and a smaller steering wheel (forget which make, lesser known name). Pics over at http://fastleft.com/gallery/porsche-914-4-2007

It's an absolute blast doing anything short of the highway. Never met a corner it didn't like, extremely tossable, and with the sideshifter transmission it's all smiles. Oh, and the highway's only a drag when you want that roll-on speed from 60 to 80 and get beaten out of a hole in traffic by a Honda Accord... Sadly I'm going to have to sell it as I can't keep it out of the weather any more -- needs to be kept indoors and that spot's been taken...

... by a factory 1970 914-6 with a carb'd 3.0 liter SC motor. :D I've been tempted to take the sideshifter from the -4, but I'd like to see that car go to somebody who'll take proper care of it. Pictures of the -6 are here: http://fastleft.com/gallery/914-6-As-Delivered

Hello All, I am new to this forum! I will tell a rather long story as quickly as possible, as to why I am here ...... after many years of owning numerous porsches from 914s on up to a 993TT .......... and even crossed the line with f-cars ........... I found myself longing for the car I have 'always' dreamed of owning ...... but at the time, did not have the resources to manifest .......... a 914 GT conversion in steel!!!

I lived by the mckenna porsche dealer and as a youngster I used to regularly ride my bicycle to 'visit' the porsches. I would spend half hour to an hour just wandering the lot admiring their beauty. One time a sales person made my day and actually let me sit inside one of them ...... it was a 'turbo look' carrera!

After using my older brothers car to deliver pizzas I managed to save enough to buy a 'very used' 1955 vw bug. I continued to work ...... then saved enough for a 1.7 914 which IMO was 'the best porsche ever' because of the mid-engine design. I loved it but I still wanted more ......... I saved even more, then bought a 914 2.0 LE creamsicle .......... it was awesome!! It was fast, handled well and it would spank my friends rx-7 every time ;)!!

So now many many years later (after all those 911 based porsches) I have come full circle and just bought myself a 914 so I can do the GT conversion on it!! This section is gonna get waaaay better ........... even if I have to do all the posting myself ...... :D!!!!!!

iJeremy 06-03-2009 03:45 PM

Really looking forward to your updates... The 914 is sooo underestimated, both on and off the track. They really are great cars that are fairly simple to maintain for the at-home mechanic and the smiles/cost ratio is off the charts. If you haven't started your own thread regarding your project yet be sure to do so, and if you have post a link in here so others can find it. Good luck and thanks for the headsup... Should be an interesting thread to follow.

gothspeed 06-03-2009 04:48 PM

Cool :)!! This section is waking up already :D!!! ............ I will absolutely start a new thread on my project. I am currently refurbing the shift linkage bushings w/ quickshifter and replacing motor mounts. I have already replaced most of the weather stripping ....... someone put 911 seats in it and I have already bought stock replacements. So those leather 911 seats will go towards a trade for a 911 front end .... ;)

Luckily the 914 I bought was in fabulous rust free shape painted in factory silver ........ pics to come on the new thread :)!

Looking forward to your build thread -- make sure you capture lots of before photos, as well as in-progress pics. And, well, if you have some current ones it'd be good to share...

As you go down this road, you might want/need some additional resources - especially if you need info about the factory GTs, those upgraded to GTs by dealers and racers using the kits the factory offered at the time, and folks that have since tried to create more or less faithful GTs.

914 World has a lot of folks who've gone down this road: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php

The Pelican Parts board/forums have also been a good source of info about all things Porsche. Bunch of things availble from this link, including the technical forums: http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/914world.htm

Awesome :)! ........... I have been to 914 world and that place is a madhouse ...... I have a hard time following threads there. If you wait one day you will find yourself on page three and who knows after that ..... but thanks for the heads up on that ........ :o
