914 engine fit VW Bug?
 

Hey guys,
I'm a 997 TT forum guy, but a friend of mine wants to know if he can fit a 914 engine into a VW Bug convertible? He only has access to the engine, not the body.

Will it fit? Are there serious issues? Mods? Transmission issues, etc.?

What year model Beetle? I don't see why it wouldn't fit, the 914 engine is a vw type 4 engine so it might even just bolt right up.

No, it is a type 4 engine which were in the newer buses 73 on and the type 411 & 412 VW model vehicles.Engine space is to small in the beetle.It would be more of a PITA then worth it.He would be better off with a VW 1600cc dual port.Now if he had access to a 914 6 that could be fun!

So let me ask you this. will the 914 bolt right up to a vw trans? Is there a specific trans I would need for that to be possible? I’m new to the vw world I bought a sandrail with half a motor and has the transmission so I’m swapping the motor. I remembered in high school my auto shop teacher had us put a Porsche motor in a bus and I thought that would be interesting upgrade for the Sandrail if it’s possible

Yes it will fit. Hundreds of Beetles running around with Type IVs. Bolts up to the Beetle transmission. I suggest you look on Shop Talk Forums or Facebook for further help.
