924 EFI Conversion

HI everyone,
I've made an EFI conversion and I'd like to share my experience here.

Actually, I haven't seen it mounted on the car yet, but it runs well on a dyno.

For the conversion you'll need:
- ECU and wiring harnesses
- Oxygen sensor //placed on the downpipe
- Air mass meter
- Water temp sensor //placed in the cylinder head instead of thermo-timer
- crankshaft positioning sensor and a crankshaft gear
- throttle positioning sensor // placed on the throttle body
- knock sensor //best place I've found is near the intake manifold
- fuel rail + fuel pressure regulator (I've heard that Ford Sierra '99 is suitable)
- injectors
- idle valve // placed on the place of cold start valve in the intake manifold

You will also need to machine some stuff:
- injector's fitting adapters
- fuel rail holder
- water temp sensor adapter
- crankshaft pos. sensor bracket
- crankshaft gear should be centered on the crank
- throttle positioning sensor bracket adapter
- some piping for AFM may be required

For proper set-up you'll need:
- wide-band Oxygen sensor and logger
- ECU flasher and the software (online programmable ECU is the best)
- a Dyno for the best tuning
- may be something else...

What do you get?
- no hot start problem as well as no cold start problem
- a bit more horsepower
- quicker throttle response
- fully adjustable system almost ready to accept turbo

My case is a custom EFI conversion kit built on J5.1 ECU which is used in most new russian cars and is an analogue of BOSCH ECU

so you may ask qeustions if you're doing the same - I'll try to help you :)

I am actually looking to do a megasquirt system for mine so i am VERY interested in this. What injectors, rail, etc did you use?

injectors are Mercedes 240cc (gray colored) and they do need adaptors
the fuel rail is made from mercedes or some ford, but it's actually custom built in my case.
I've heard Ford sierra fuel rail has same size as needed, but I'm not pretty sure.

possible to do this WITHOUT removing the engine?

yes, but you will need to remove the belts and the crank wheel to put one with the gear like on the third photo.
