Need help buying a 944

Hey guys,
I am looking to buy a 944, 1986 or newer. I know plenty are available, but I want to avoid pitfalls.

The Turbo would be great, as would a later model S or S2. I know of some of the usual issues (timing belt, fuel pump, motor mounts, mixing of oil and coolant, cracks in dash). Do any of my pals here know one I've GOT TO SEE to believe?

For me, I want something I can drive daily, with great paint and like-new interior. I won't buy a 20k mile garage find at a premium, since I want to feel no guilt in running it daily, if I so choose.

If you want a great daily driver, then go with the S2. Great torque everywhere, which makes it really fun to drive in traffic, much more so than the turbo. Also less problems than the turbo. Stay away from the 8V NA and the S IMHO. The non turbo cars are fun to toss around, but I think you would be really disappointed after being in the 997 lol.

944 buying

Cattman- Do lots of looking before deciding on a vehicle. I spent 3 year before I bought my 86 944 T, but it was worth it. Steering wheel and interior worn? Guess what the engine and drive train will be like. Not good. Lots of good on-line sites, Clark's Garage is a good one, all kinds of info to make a educated decision.

Just make sure you find one with the paperwork to back up the maintenance that was done. Higher mileage shouldn't scare you away if it was properly maintained. Low miles garage queen might end up needing more work (vacuum line issues, seals) These cars like to be driven, like all Porsches!
