My '15 GT Silver Turbo S was built in late September 2014. I purchased it the day after it arrived in late October at an Ohio Porsche dealership. The dealership was great-- better than my two local dealerships IMHO.
Here is the build list:
GT Silver Metallic
Leather Interior in Black/Garnet Red
Seat heating (front)
20" 911 Turbo Wheels
Electric Slide/Tilt Sunroof in Glass
Power Steering Plus
Burmester High-End Infotainment Package
Wheels Painted Black
Heated Multifunction Steering Wheel in Carbon Fiber
Door-sill guards in Carbon Fiber, illuminated
Ornamental Porsche Crest
Here is what I have had done so far:
1. Xpel Ultimate covers the entire front of the car, side mirrors, A-pillar, the side sills up to the intercooler inlets and the entire rear bumper.
2. K40 RL360 radar detection system with laser defuser (purchased but waiting on the installation). I am debating on using the included LED notification lights or modifying the rearview mirror to provide a hidden notification pane.
3. 20" HRE FF01 matte black wheels with Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 snow tires. WeatherTech front floor mats to contain the snow melt from my shoes
4. I removed the airbag warning labels on the sun visors using 91% isopropyl alcohol. Wow does this make a huge improvement!
5. The dealer gifted and installed the clear front side marker lights.
This is what I plan to do:
1. Remove the PORSCHE billboard below the rear spoiler. I want just 'Turbo S' or '911 Turbo S' to remain.
2. Install aftermarket headers and exhaust. The droning sound can be annoying although after 3500 miles I am less annoyed by it.
I did not order this car although I ranted about it in a previous post titled, "I found my Unicorn!' After almost 3 months of ownership this is what I like and dislike about the car.
First the likes:
The car just looks awesome! I love the LED headlights, the wide, hunkered-down body, and the classic 911 lines.
I have driven every 911 Turbo from the 993 through 991-- weird nomenclature!-- and they all have that solid, turbine-like smoothness. So fast yet so well composed. The car corners on rails and the 4-wheel steering is great in tight spaces or when you need to make a U-turn. There is so much technology at work that driving at 100 mph feels like nothing. I cannot wait to track the car this summer. The acceleration is wicked fun.
Among interior design, this one trumps them all with regard to interior luxury and options. The switch gear and interior design looks/feels contemporary. The Burmester sound system is simply amazing. Satellite radio and well-recorded CD's reveal a depth and nuance not exhibited by the past Bose systems.
I love the glass sunroof with sun shade. This is a first for the 991 lineup. Previous models have only the painted steel opening roof panels. In my climate this item is a huge mood improvement for my psyche.
The multifunction steering wheel is great for daily driving. I use the heating function often and I scroll through the menus many times on all types of trips. I am not certain I would use the paddel shifters all of the time. Interestingly, I would have order the sport wheel on its looks alone.
Fuel economy is incredible! So far I have averaged over 20 mpg in the first 3500 miles in my Turbo S. Most highway trips average 22-24 mpg. My 993 Turbo delivered about 15 mpg over 25,000 miles. My current '09 Cayenne GTS averaged 16 mpg over +66,000 mostly highway miles.
Ahh that new Porsche smell! I am happy my wife does not wear perfume because I would have to drive something else on the few occasions she has been in the car. [I am also happy the wifey does not want to drive it either ]
Now for the dislikes:
After 3500 miles of driving I have had only one glitch. The driver's side mirror will angle down in tandem with the passenger side mirror when the car is in reverse. Once the car is put in drive, the passenger side mirror returns to its normal position first, next the infotainment screen switches off the rearview camera after the car has made several seconds of forward progress. The driver-side mirror would remain down until I made manual adjustments. I think I resolved the issue by switching off the Auto Memory mode indicated on p. 123 of the owners manual. We'll see...
After driving the car, there was a plastic/rubber-like burning smell above the engine compartment. Definitely not clutch, engine oil, or electrical. I brought it to the dealership, and the mechanic could not smell anything (no surprise there!) but other 991 owners have noticed this especially during the first few thousand miles.
Knee room for my 6' 1", 195 lb frame is less than the 997. I am still comfortable but I do notice the intrusion of that rising center console.
A lot of the driver involvement has been removed. You really have to drive this car hard at high speeds to really appreciate it. It is not that any of the inputs--steering, brake, accelerator, suspension dynamics, exhaust note are weird, but the whole experience is very GT like as in grand touring.
Rear visibility is decreased. The sideview mirrors are smaller than the 997 and the side and rear window and heights are shorter. As big as the car with the additional horizontal glass, it is surprising how visibility is somewhat decreased.
I miss the older more elaborate door sill trim. My car has the illuminated CF treatment and there is about half as much CF as in previous models.
Now for the photos:
A pre-delivery interior shot. I love the red carpet-- most two-tone interiors have black deviated carpet-- hate the floor mat
Fall in Washington D.C. and time to pay respect to our armed forces. GT Silver is warmly glowing.
Time to head back home...
What triple digit speed looks like. Yep, effortless.
2000 miles of driving including rain without a car wash! Those black-painted rims and PCCB brakes work in tandem.
Home at last after 2200 miles.
Ready for winter with 20" HRE FF01s. A bad photo does a huge injustice to GT Silver!
Enjoying our 6 months of winter (1-2 washes per week!).
Nice pictures and review! I like both sets of wheels. Normally, I'm not a big fan of red interior, but in my opinion it looks much better with silver than black exterior. Enjoy!
Nice! HRE's look perfect. Thanks for the comments. No burning smell or problem with exterior driver's side mirror on my 15. The only thing that I note after about 5500 miles or so is the somewhat annoying drone around 1800 rpm and am considering the Europipe.
Hard to find shortfalls with the model. Not sure what other cars combine the versatility of the TT/TTS for performance and touring, especially given the room in the back for the dog.
Great review. Thanks. I think you are spot on with your assessments. I've had three GT Silver cars. It is my favorite color. My newly ordered Turbo S would be GT Silver but I was outvoted by my wife. Her 1 vote carries more weight than my 1 vote. Besides she will drive it a lot more than me.
One FYI. I've heard conflicting things on the efficacy of the headers if the car is not going to be turbo upgraded. One of the top tuners in the world has told me that they actually inhibit performance and lengthen the time for the turbos to spool up. They told me that they would only help performance if and when the car gets a turbo upgrade. Accordingly I did not get them for my car as I will not do a turbo upgrade.

Thanks for the insight on the headers. This could be a new (or re-explored) thread!
I am currently satisfied with my car in its stock form although I look forward to the day when I start modifying the power system. My starting point will be an aftermarket exhaust. 99% of my perceived benefit will be for sound especially around the 2000 rpm mark where the droning sound is loudest.
Now about those headers.... The Turbo power system has many chokes. These are engineered components where there just isn't much leeway for tuning/modifying because another choke will be reached. I think (although I really don't know $#*! about) the engineering limits are fairly close in all regards. The ECU, headers, exhaust, catalytic converters, inlet air, fuel supply, turbos and intercoolers each play a vital role. [Additionally, there may be room for tweaking the VTG turbos which I have yet to hear about. And I will leave the PDK tranny out of the equation, too.]
If I change the headers one of three things have occurred. I may have introduced a choke to the system as in less pressure for turbo spool-up. This was your insightful tip. The replacement headers may operate in the same PVT range as the stock headers so there isn't a system change, or the new headers could remove a choke.
My assessment of the speed modifications posted in this and other forums is the ECU flash if done properly captures what little gains the Porsche engineers have left on the table.
For us speed freaks, 0.5 sec 1/4 mile improvements are meaningful. But the day will come when one of us will install all of the above (plus nitrous oxide) to drop seconds off the 1/4 mile times! I will be the guy reading about it .
I love the car, and myself am considering GT Silver. I have only seen it in pictures, what made you chose over Rhodium? Often, online at least, the two can look very similar.

Every bad photo that I posted in this thread, the car looks rhodium silver
Had I ordered my car I would have chosen rhodium silver. For that matter I wouldn't have ordered the Turbo wheels painted black which is another option on the car I have.
IMHO among the two silver colors, the GT Silver is warmer and matches brown, red and tan interiors better than rhodium silver. Yachting blue, platinum gray and pebble gray match the blue-toned rhodium silver better. Black and agate gray are so neutral they work either way. BTW I saw a '14 rhodium silver over yachting blue TTS with lots of deviated stitching and the car was stunning! It is still for sale in Florida.
Now that I have both GT silver and painted wheels, I would not want it any other way! They make the car look more special. I can understand why Porsche has two exterior black paints and two exterior gray paints, but I cannot understand why the Turbo wheels are not all painted black. The standard gray paint on the Turbo wheels does not enhance the polished surfaces like the black paint does.
Exterior and interior colors are first priority options for me, but when there are several choices in the same color, it is really easy to live with either choice. BTW black is by far my favorite exterior color, but I vowed not to get another sports car in that color. It really is beautiful but it is a commitment to cleanliness that would prevent frequent drives in the winter muck. Good luck!
Beautiful car ! I've had a couple silver Porsches and they always stun when clean. I like the interior color combination of your car a great deal with the silver hide.
I liked your write up as well.
I only have 500 miles on my car, so it's still very new to me. And, I must say, very different from my '09 997 TT cab. And, not all in a good way IMO. But, I'll wait until I have more miles on the car before I give a report.
Hoping to head to the dealer to have my GMG exhaust installed this week ... depending on the weather which has hampered my DD driving of the car.
I've driven Porsches in the winter months here in New England, but they were RWD cars. Much like the VW Bugs I drove in school. Work well in snow, but tend to plow fresh 4" snow. But, whata plow!
