Couldn't take it anymore ....

Well, after an 8" heavy snow fall lastnight, we cleaned up the damn driveway for about the 20th time. Snow removal took us over 6 hours. Some areas in the yard are chest high with snow.

Main roads were clear, so I decided to take the TT out for a trot after nearly a month sitting in the garage.

Was good! 50 miles on 2ndary roads in "sport" getting the car up to 70 now and again. Temps were a bit over 40F. Lots of water on the road and 4-5 foot snow mounds guarding driveway entrances.

Car's filthy, but what the hey ... won't be the last time it's dirty. And, driving it gave me a bit of happiness in this crap winter here in New England. I'm sure other folks in this region share my feelings. Spirng cannot come too soon!!

Glad to hear you got out with the slightly warmer weather. Compared to what we have been having, it was almost balmy.

My concern is finding a way to wash under the car after driving in these conditions. I also don't have the right tires so the car is going to continue to sit for a while.

I am in the same mindset as you. Should we start a count-down clock for Spring, 24 more days as of today? The wait is killing me!!

There are those who drive their cars all winter long .... Europe comes to mind. Chicago, too. And, I have done the same. I would not worry much about washing under the car.

That said, there are car washes that allow for under carriage washing with pressure. These are not the automated washes, but usually attached. I looked into one last year with my 997TT.

And ... looks like we will have a bit warmer weather to come. But, the huge snows will take some time to melt. Crikey!

Hey guys, as an ex-Chicagoan who moved to the San Francisco Bay area; when the people here ask me why I didn't move sooner, I just tell them I didn't know any better.

You all are welcome here, just bring your Porsche to the great roads on which you can use your summer tires on all year long.

Here in Miami it was 75 degrees yesterday finally again .
We just had three days in a row of 60s.
I hate it when I have to wear a jacket!

Know how you feel. Yesterday was only a dusting 4 inches for us. So sick of winter. Car is still in the garage though being new and all. Yesterday was 39 degrees felt like 60 for once. Catchers and Pitchers, actually most of the Red Sox have started spring training so how long can it be till spring.

Omg, I would be in shorts if it was 60 deg. Last night was 35 below with windchill.

Wow that is a lot of snow...

It has just been cold here in Minnesota with only 1-2" on the lakes and the roads are clear. I empathize with your situation, and hope the snow melts soon but not too quickly to cause flooding. Check your sump pump!

Any more pics of the snow mountains?

After my walk this morning... and the windchill was still -35C!!

Starting to dislike this long cold winter!!

Bagger Mar 6, 2015 05:41 AM

Unbelievable! It's March 6th and it was 3*F this morning when I got up. And, there is over 30 inches of snow in my yard. Some sections of my roof have 3 feet of snow residing. Plus, my driveway has snow banks nearly 4 feet high resembling a luge run of sorts.

The pot holes I dodge in the Forester going to work are pretty incredible. They are literally everywhere. These certainly won't bode well for the 20s on the 991TT when it finally leaves it's garaged stable.

On the bright side, the temps will nudge up a bit to the mid 40s this coming week with no major storms in sight. Perhaps there will be enough melting so I can take the TT out for a trot.

(sigh ...)

wch bos Mar 6, 2015 07:08 AM

I hear you. There's a PCA members event on March 15 and I would love to be able to take the TT.

porsche42 Mar 6, 2015 08:16 AM

I hear ya. 2 degrees here at the border of NH. Looks like a warmer week next week. Maybe I can take the car for a little ride. Gee maybe should have gotten a heated steering wheel.

disden Mar 6, 2015 02:44 PM

I usually like winter, but this year it's really getting old. I've had 911s in the garage for years, but seeing my 15 TT in hibernation has just been really tough. Really looking forward to spring.

stormeister Mar 6, 2015 05:21 PM

Took my TTS Cabriolet to work today up 495N (in Massachusetts), 90 mile round trip... at least the top was up... at least until the first 50+f day.

I have never worried about washing my cars in the winter, modern cars can take it easily enough.
