That makes sense. It sounds like the 458 spider might be a more appealing as a total package right now than the 488 or cali. Although the 488 is the latest and greatest today, the 458 is the last of the NA screamers - a pity. Makes me think of the end of the air cooled Porsche era.

I have yet to scratch the Ferrari itch but it will be farther down the road - right now I want to pick up a race car and try that on for size. And after a few Ducatis I'm not sure I want any more Italian drama in my life for a while!

Best of luck - in this scenario you don't have any bad options!

Building a stable is such a weird and complicated and personal thing. What works for some really wouldnt work for others. What I'm looking for now probably seems odd in comparison.

I have an amazing 4wd, the best station wagon (three kids, dog) money can buy, the best daily driver (991 TTS), and a race car (caged endurance RX7). What I want now is a convertible with a 6 speed and a NA RWD powertrain for those Sunday drives. I'll decide between a '16 Boxster Spyder and current Z06 or Grand Sport vert some day. Then I'll be set for awhile.

I too have had my share of Italian vehicles (oh yes, those Ducs, almost as bad as an older British car), and I'm not currently interested in the complication.

But I understand your desire for a convertible, especially where you live. I would just be looking for something different powertrain-wise.

Have you considered an older manual transmission Ferrari? My impression is that they will only appreciate as they will never make another one.

I learned to drive with three on a tree in 1968 and all my cars after that were four on the floor. tr3, vette, vega, chevette, volvo 264 and then the 93 volvo 960 which was the first auto I had. It was a sweet car but my oldest daughter totalled it in 1997 and so I bought an off lease 96 ls400 and then a ls430. Finally in 2010 I bought a e60 535i and then the ill fated f10 m5 with the DCT which was followed by the 991tts. I am sold on the DCT trannies and never want to push a clutch again. I love my paddle shifters.

I think maybe the NA on the 458 will be an appreciating type car. I like the 599gtb but it's a GT car and a coupe with the F1 tranny.

Almost to the finish line on the land deal but the Cali is long gone, too good a deal and too good a build. The 488 is still available, LOL!

Yes I am keeping the 991. It's getting the Turbo upgrade which cost me a Chanel purse. I can only drive one car at time and I have the RR as a DD. So maybe I just wait on the Ferrari. I was just noting that the Cali sold quickly as it was the real value and the better build. Lot's of people prefer the nice cruiser.

I may be in the minority but I have been in a Ferrari 488 (owner of car dealer who has a huge collection in NJ) and was lucky enough to drive a 991 turbo s with a cobb tune/exhaust and intercoolers. I would 100% rather have the 911 turbo. I just think it is such a master at being both a very comfortable GT car and an insane speed freak that can out launch anything out there.

Being that there is now new hardware coming out for these 991 TTS cars I really think there are going to be some absolute monsters out there and one day ... one day I would love to own one. I hope one day I can be as successful as a lot of you guys. Awesome cars.

I have been through this. Presently have a '15 Turbo S Cab and have owned many Porsches since my first in 1979. Have had at least one of every Turbo since the 993. A few years ago I got the Ferrari bug. Started with a 458. When I bought the 458 I placed an order for a 458 Spyder as I also wanted a convertible. Then I went to a 599, 599GTO & now an F12. Cancelled the Spyder and never looked back. Consider an F12. There is nothing like the 12 cylinder cars. They are truly the hand made Ferrari whereas the 8 cylinders are semi assembly line cars. Admittedly they are not convertibles. Also there is nothing like the sound of the NA 12 cylinder F-car. There are tons of great used ones available that you can steal. I still think the Turbo S is a better car but it is just a different feel when you climb into the Ferrari. BTW - better Chanel than Hermes.

The other thing they have is a new 488 Spyder in red for $425,000. Sounds amazing but the 458 I think sounds better, it will scream.

This says it's a 13 but the sales guy said it was a 14. I won't pay 299. I told him I would offer 275 if I was interested. Guess we will see if the owner wants to deal, he has a 488 on order.

i actually stopped by Ferrari Austin last week and the SA mentioned that they would take $399k for the 488 spider. Good luck choosing though! Great problem to have around the holidays.

Yeah I had a similar conversation with Erik, the $425k is just for openers but $395k is still too high. Maybe $375 which is still $30k over but the silver one in the OP is really attractive to me and already $30k over but at $334k. No drop though.
