2 Questions on 991.1 TTS purchase -CPO vs aftermarket? 2014 worse than other years?
I have been planning this for a long time and ready to do it! I am coming from a 2001 TT and ready for a major upgrade. I am locked on an S and my budget is for a 14-16 car. I would greatly appreciate perspective on these 2 questions.
1-Is CPO a must or have people found good after market warranty alternatives? My bias is to go with CPO given previous bad experience with aftermarket warranty companies. Also, my 996TT was CPO and PCNA rebuild the engine under warranty ($17k!) so I like CPO. However, it does limit my options and cars at Porsche dealers have a high premium. A dealer offered me a full coverage warranty (lists only items that are excluded) for $4k for 6 years from start date. Any suggestions?
2-Have people found that '14 cars have more issues than other years? I know that cars tend to have more issues on the 1st year but not sure if this is true of the TT given the 991 platform was out for a couple of years already in 2014.
Thanks to everyone.

If a CPO provided for an engine rebuild then it would be a no brainer for me. I had a 2012 c2s before the 15 TTS and had a few things come up that a CPO would have taken care of, instead it was out of my pocket. The 15 TTS is CPO and was on my "must have" list.

Hi muker
A few years in both stock and highly modified these cars have proven to be quite nice and reliable. I agree CPO is quite nice and they do recognize and appreciate return customers which makes it all the better all around. Worth it I would say especially if you have the right connections at the dealership to take care of you regardless. You’re going to miss the 996 but you’re gonna love the 991! Feel free to reach out if there’s anything I can help you with or any dealer recommendations you might need.
Good luck!

I took delivery of a new 2014 Turbo in Feb 2015. Live in Las Vegas. Car has 40K in it no problems. Plan to keep for 10 years. Traded in my 2001 Turbo for this new car. 2001 was a manual 2014 PDK. Concerns when first ordered. Now love the PDK. Over 100 days with Temperature over 100 degrees car always runs cool. Only mod was th Sharksworks exhaust. CPO good idea. My 2001 had a transmission replacement value 17K. If you plan on keeping get the warranty. Something on the car will break that cost more than the warranty. PS. If you find a used car from a provide seller that is still covered with the 4 year warranty you can go to a Porsche dealer and purchase a extended plan to cover the car for 100K miles or 10 year. I did this with my 2001 and the replacement transmission cost me nothing. The 2014 Turbo is bulletproof. Best car I have every owned.

2014 with a CPO here. No issues other than some weird $20 valve that made the heat not work until it was replaced.
I plan to keep it until the kids are out of college, and I have a 7-year old, so....

I would buy a 16 without CPO at the best price. It will still have the manufacturer warranty for at least another year. The cost of CPO is about $4k and not worth it if you ask me, assuming you have factory warranty left.
I bought my 2014 in August 2014 with 3k miles on it. It was actually a 2013 build so the warranty was due to expire in Dec 2017. Thus, when I bought mine it had more than three years warranty left and the CPO just seemed a waste of money. They offered to CPO the car for the extra $4k which I declined.
I only had one warranty fix and that was for a secondary cooling system issue at 17k miles. I sold the car with 18k miles just a year ago and never had problems with it.

Warranty Prices
I am still searching for a car but found an interesting alternative to CPO. Here are the quotes I received from a local porsche dealer for the Porsche extended warranty and for the fidelity. (note these were quoted on a 2017 Turbo S so prices for a 991.1 may be slightly different. For someone like myself that plans to keep the car for a long time, the 10 yr is an interesting option.
Porsche
10yrs/75k miles total will be $ 7963
9yrs/ 60k miles $ 6175
8yrs /60k $ 5851
7yrs /60k $ 5563
Fidelity Platinum
10 years /100k extension is $ 6109
8/80k $ 5068
7/70k $ 4622
6/60k $ 4073

Those Fidelity prices are high. I just got 7/70 on my 14 with 19k in the clock for 4400 and Francis just got 10/100 for 4289 on his with 9k in the clock. I have a 250 dollar deductible and he has a 100.

Agree hard to argue with CPO. Porsche is the only one who can extend your warranty. Zero headaches and accepted at every Porsche dealer. The rest are service contracts like Fidelity. For most folks the factory warranty and additional 2 years are more than they keep the car and work just fine. I do not plan on selling this one and Fidelity offers a 7-10 year option from date of contract which is appealing.

The 2014s are simply cheaper because they are coming out of their factory warranty. The 2015s mostly still have a year or so left. Combined with CPO - I got almost 3 years of warranty - should be enough to shake out anything.
Personally, if I had to do it again, I'd spend low-mid 120s on a 2014 with CPO. The 2016s are still in the 140s, so even if you have to pay for CPO, you're still coming out ahead with as long a warranty. I paid mid 130s for a 2015, and really feel like I spent that $10k on a backup camera and less than a year of warranty :P oh well.
