I have an older V1 that I can upgrade to a newer one and get $110.00 off through their upgrade program. It would be cheaper to go this route but if the Escort Max 360 blows the doors off the V1 then the extra cash would be worth it. Also is anyone using a mount to put their phone in... Say one that would sit to the right of the center console. I always put my phone in the door compartment but that would not work if I was using Waze. |

Waze is good to use as well, but yes buy and install an integrated radar & laser system. I have the Net Radar with AL Priority jammers, which are the best laser jammers. The Net Radar is very good, but if I started over, I would probably use the AL Priority Jammers and buy the new version of what I had (Escort Passport 9500 Ci) I don't know the new version of their top of the line model, but it is a bit more sensitive (longer range) than the Net Radar. I had the older one 9500 CI and it was excellent. I would never have any radar unit hanging on my windshield for a number of reasons. I mounted a Pro Clip for my iPhone on my air vent so it's just to the right of my steering wheel and easy to see for Waze.

I’ve got the Escort Passport MAX 360 Ci in my car with a custom mirror display. It’s fantastic. I previously had the Escort Passport Max 2, which was damn good for a windshield-mounted unit. I think Escort products are really good. They have a network similar to Waze that provides you with alerts from other Escort users, alerts you to traffic cameras, etc. The 360 Ci system is expensive, but it’s worth it if you want serious protection. |

Waze is now in Apple CarPlay and so really easy to use. I live in a high traffic area and information especially about the fuzz is really accurate. When I used radar detectors I always felt that could not rely on it.

The Uniden R3 and Radenso Pro M are the 2 best mounted detectors out there right now. Waze is great for road info but I still won't ride without a detector. I have the Uniden R3 after a lifetime of Escorts. It is superior in range and delivers a minimum of faults.

Just send in your V1 for and update, top it off with Waze and use common sense.
At the end of the day the pig can still throw the book at you, no matter how sophisticated your system is. |
It depends on where you live (meaning, what the police use for speed detection in the areas where you drive), your budget, and how often you drive fast. Finally, maybe the last factor for me anyway, is stealth. I don't want others to see the radar. In the past, when I owned a V1 (I've owned detectors since the late 80s), it would fly off the window at times and people like to trail you to use your radar if they see it hanging from your windshield. Importantly, cops don't like seeing radar detectors either because it's kind of giving them the finger. Anyway, an example of a real use-case is this weekend (Thanksgiving). I drove along the NJ Turnpike today from near NYC all the way down to the bottom part of the state of NJ (120 miles on the turnpike and then another north/south smaller highway). If I didn't have a radar (no laser went off on this particular trip), I could have been stopped 3 times. I would have absolutely been nailed once as he was sitting in a blind spot in the middle of nowhere in a spot where I have never seen a cop before in the past 10 years. I left very early (5:30 am) to avoid traffic and the cops were out in full force. I drove fast, avoided traffic and tickets. My system easily saved me many hundreds of dollars today. Yes, you need to use your eyes as well. However, all that said, if I did not use X & K bands in NJ for example to avoid those false positives, I would have tickets/points. However, if you're mostly on Long Island, I was told you can shut off a few of the older radar bands because they aren't used by police. On Long Island, they do use the newest lasers though so you better have AL jammers. I suggest you do your research and assess your needs along the factors I've listed. I have had many detectors over the 30 plus years and I have always had fast cars and I have always driven fast. For me, today the system I have worked perfectly and certainly helped "pay" for itself in the 10 months I have owned this new setup. It wasn't cheap, but using my eyes, Waze, and my current system has been flawless so far. The last time I was "caught" for speeding was by an unmarked car driving in the far right lane sneaking up on me and trailing me to gauge my speed. Never turned on any system because my radar never went off, but we were going X and when I took off at one point for a little burst, he knew I was going Y, so it wasn't the system that failed it was me and it was quite a few years ago.
