991S or ZR1
991S or ZR1
Someone had to start the first comparison thread... I had 2 late model corvettes before my current 05 C2S which I love. These appear to be roughly the same price now, if they could just make the interior/seats a little better in the vette. I was hoping to see an X51 option. Which car would put a bigger smile on YOUR face?

The Corvette has come a long way in interior and overall build quality over the last several years, but it's still nowhere near the 911, ESPECIALLY the new 991.
While it's true the ZR1 will outperform the 991, you have to ask yourself if overall performance is your primary concern. Also, at this level, it's pretty close in real world performance anyways. A 991 S with PDK will probably do mid-3's (since Porsche traditionally underrates performance numbers) and the PDK will be much more consistent as well. Also the ZR1 will run low 11's with a good driver, a PDK 991 S will likely run mid-11's regardless of who's driving. Now the 60-130 runs will of course be a whole different story, where the ZR1's power advantage will really make a big difference.
So, in the real world, performance seems very close.
I would go for the 991 S with PDK just because I think it's a better all around car, even if it's performs slightly worse.

I have driven Corvettes all of my driving life. One of my major complaints has been the absolute disregard for a "proper" sports car interior. There was talk of an "improved" seat for the 2012. model so I dashed off to the dealer about 3 weeks ago. After about 10 seconds inside the car, I cried uncle and concluded that the only path to happiness was in a 991!! Power or no power, the ZR-1 shares the same cabin and IMHO, it sucks. When some Porsche affectionados find fault in the new 991 interior and while I do to a certain extent understand this when comparing it to the 997, they should be thankful for what has been retained and what has been, in Porsches mind, upgraded. We in the bow tie crowd have never been treated as well!!!
There is a reason why a Corvette costs less than the Porsche equivalent.
The difference between a Porsche and a Corvette is:
- The Corvette tries to be the best in performance
- The Porsche tries to be best in everything!

+1 to what was said below.
The Corvette is an amazing machine on paper, and on the track.
Having driven one on the streets, it gets scary really quickly. I felt much more confident in any Porsche!
