About to submit my first 911/991 order. Q's!
Hi,
I'm on the final stages of submitting my first 911 order....something I have been looking forward to for more years than I care to admit. It's going to be a 991 S, and I have a couple questions that I cannot figure out from previous threads... If I spec the car with PASM (actually standard on the S, I guess), SC, and sport exhaust, will they all be on 3 separate buttons? The official short description for the sport chrono mode suggests that the 'sport plus' button on the console will affect/control PASM, sport exhaust, and many other options. Since I have a wife and kids, it would be a serious limitation if I were forced to be in sport suspension mode with PASM every time I wanted the sport chrono activated. Once I have a final list, I will post it here for a final vetting. :) Thanks! Arthur |
Not sure if itīs a help but in the 997 the PASM is on a separate button. PASM can be deactivated, put to "Normal" when in sports mode.
-In a 'Sport Chrono' equipped 997 there is no 'PSE/Porsche Sport Exhaust' or 'Exhaust Icon' button as the DME controls the activation of the Sport Exhaust vacuum controlled dampers. When your speed falls below a certain value the DME turns off the 'loud state'. (Has to do with German noise regulations) -In a non 'Sport Chrono' 997 with a factory PSE, Porsche installs the 'Exhaust Icon Switch' in the panel which in turn controls the PSE valve(s). i can imagine itīs the same direction in the new 991 but not 100% sure. |
Anyone here know when the dealers are getting press car here in Northern California/Bay area? Laguna Saga might be too crowded to just check out the 991, LA auto show is a little far to go.
Some article stated Jan, some Feb and March for 991 coming to the US. Cant wait to see them on the lot. |
Hm I just went down to the dealer with this same question. It looks like the buttons are all distinct (the car I tested, a 2011 S, did not have the PSE), but the sport button seems to take over and turn on the sport suspension, etc. He said turning off sport suspension with the PASM button would take the car out of sport mode, so he was asserting that they are indeed linked. It is still not consistent with what I have been hearing, but he seemed to know what he was talking about.
Another question has emerged as I finish deciding on specs. I kinda wish the 991 sport steering wheel had the radio and comm controls, as well as the paddles. But it doesn't...you have to pick. I suppose I am going to go with the sport wheel with the paddles, but is this something that can easily be changed in the future if I change my mind? |

Most people do it cause the 997īs ride quality in the sport set up is too hardcore and too stiff. Ok. Thanks for the feedback so far. Silver, you are probably exactly correct, and I doubt the 991 will change from how it works in your Panamera. The dealer explained it to me quickly and I may have not fully understood. Honestly, it seems a little redundant/confusing for these cars to have SPORT and SPORT plus buttons, both of which are managing other user-configurable settings. It's all kind of overlapping in a slightly confusing way, but I'll get used to it quickly I imagine.
I'm going with the sport steering wheel. Since I will not have comm buttons on my wheel, then, is voice control something I should consider or is it going to just be a comedy of errors? Me: "Play U2" Car: "OK, Dialing Work". |
silverīs experience with the Panamera and my with the 997 are the same. both vehicles can run it "Sport" mode and PASM in "Normal" mode. shouldn`t be any different with the 991.
i have never used voice control in any cars i have driven, itīs surely safer but personally i found it stupid to kinda talk to myself, i still use the buttons etc. |

This is a Sport Chronos car and there are separated buttons for Sport, Sport+, PASM and sport exhaust.

On the 997.2 you can definitely set SC to sport and then put PASM or SPASM back to normal. They will definitely retain that. Based on the pics - sport chrono, PSE and PASM are 3 independent buttons/settings, meaning you can have any combo going.

Yeah the pic was helpful. Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have submitted a spec and I apparently have a Dec build allocation, and my first Porsche will be on its way...in several months. Woot!
