Why do the launch car 911 S's have PDK without Sport Chrono?

Doesn't that = a laggy car? I thought you really needed to have Sport Chrono along with PDK - or is that no longer valid?

buck986 Feb 11, 2012 08:25 AM

I think all my dealers cars had SC. IMO it is a no brainer option with PDK.

How many launch cars have you seen? Maybe it was not available for the earliest production 991s?

Seen 2, both had exact same options and both without Sport Chrono.

If you check inventories of US dealers across the country they all have some 991S vehicles in stock with pdk but no sport chrono, but most of them do have sport chrono.

Sport chrono is no longer an absolute must now with the sport button as standard, but still a good option for sport+ and DEMs.

that said, it is still a must have, imo. and, why would anyone want to skip the sport plus mode?

resale will suffer as well just like with .2 gt3s. early cars did not have this option, latter ones did. the sans DEM cars sell for less (few grand less, much more than the cost of the option @ $1300.) and take much more time to sell.

SC is a must for sure. In the LA area, there are a lot of pdk cars without sc. I'd say only 2/7 cars have sc, and they are only equipped on cars that break the 120 mark.

Does anyone know if the Sport Chrono dynamic engine mounts really do reduce vibrations as well as oscillartions?

Perhaps, but you won't notice any thing in everyday driving, dems are really for turns at higher speeds.

Sorry, but hasn't this question been answered for you before? Maybe not. Either way I'll answer it again. With that said, they will reduce flex in the drive train when any opposing forces are present. This will occur whether or not you are cornering at high speed, low speed (as in abrupt directional changes), or hard on the gas from the dig or low traction situations.

They will act like a solid mount when needed and like a normal engine mount when not. They will NOT make the ride any softer than a standard 991(S). For that you would need to buy a Mercedes.

used to be, sport is standard now, sport plus is insane for any street use.... overkill for sure.

wa1l1in Feb 11, 2012 08:51 PM

omg, we all MUST HAVE launch control and kicking shifts for our daily commute!.. car is useless without it.

PT Doc Feb 11, 2012 09:22 PM

SC is probably how the rags were able to produce the 3.5s time. Sport chrono quoted per Porsche to produce 3.9 and without it 4.1s. All numbers for PDK.

6spdg37s Feb 11, 2012 09:28 PM

the ones we drove had them

911dev Feb 12, 2012 09:24 AM

^ of course people CAN do without SC. We know that the sport button is now standard. No SC is not necessary for the daily commute. If you want a commuter car, buy a Prius.

Regardless, of LC, SC comes with faster shifts/options (this IS a sports car, right???) and DEMs. Why would anyone think that those faster shift modes are too much for the street. Absolutely ridiculous.
