Unless one is racing or concerned mainly with bragging rights, the numbers are, at best, an indication of what the driving experience will be like. And ultimately it's the experience - only the experience - that matters.

I'll have to grab a copy of the mag later today but in the interim I have a question: Did they test the manual versions of the 991's or PDK?

I agree, I love to look at specs like any other enthusiast, but in todays market HP and 0-60 times tend to define a car. I think EVO makes an interesting point, as subjective as it may be, that in the case of C2 vs C2S the 50hp difference has not made the same difference that it has on paper. I may be wrong, I have not read the full article yet, but this is the feeling I´m getting from the quotes.

Thank you, I appreciate it !

Thanks Manifold. I downloaded the app and found the article. Good app. Just on the fence myself between the base and the S

So were they testing manual versions or PDK?

IIRC, the 991 was PDK and the 991S was manual.

Someone posted the article on another site:

http://www.germancarforum.com/intern...two-parts.html

I'm surprised that EVO picked the base R8 over both the GTR and the 991S. But after 2 months and 1500 miles in a R8 V10, I believe that I've never enjoyed a car more.

Well the only review that truly matters is my own. And the 991S is SPORT PLUS mode is about as raw as any car should ever be on public roads. It's fascinatly scary, infinitely responsive, brutally rigid, instantly shifting, horribly aggressive and fast as bloody hell. Not to mention the dizzying 60-0 pad time will will bring all the blood to the front of your face.

Got a chance with another forum member here to perform launch control in someone else's 991 for the first time. We both about crapped. The foam inside the seats got super-compressed and the seat belts got baggy real quick.

Best car I've ever driven - bar none - Corvette, Audi R8, BMW M-cars, Ferrari, Porsche, etc...

The good independent review far outweigh the bad. As a former 997 owner I'll side with the majority and take the 991.

Glad that you love your car, and thanks for explaining why. IMO, the point of these discussions isn't for us all to reach consensus, but rather to see the range of opinions and their basis. Ultimately, each person has to choose for themself what they want, and shouldn't be overly swayed by the opinions of others. Maybe the only objective sort of answer on whether Porsche has gone in the 'right' direction with the 991 is how sales are affected, which time will tell.

Sticker at the back of your car, it must have read F1 not 991S if the foam was compressing! I just like the way you put it, very funny.

However slight exaggeration; I have done it in 991S but the 997 turbo S PDK propels you much harder.
