Video:Porsche 991 CS v Nissan GT-R at track
The GT-R is a great car. I had a 09 and went with a 13 this year. The tranny is much improved compared to the 09 in terms of quality shifts and programming in auto mode. I've never driven a 991 thus if it's anywhere feels like my Spyder or my old 997RS I don't think any cars can rival the driving feel on the steering and brakes. I've driven many cars and I don't know why other manufacture can not make the brake feel like a Porsche. Nothing comes close in my opinion. Good modulation, super strong and not an on off switch.
I think the Spyder has perfect steering feel for the street and the GT3 goes beyond that for the track. Yes, the GTR would destroy the Porsche in a lap but for the driving feel I would understand if someone prefers the Porsche at the track. I don't know if the new steering is any good but with Porsche going digital can it compete again the GTR in that regards? I'm waiting for my 991 gt3 but that would be a better comparason vs the GTR and is the proper comparo. I just hope Porsche would keep the same RS steering and manual tranny or at least give us an option for that

Furthermore that's not the point. The point is that when you go to a Porsche forum you should expect to find some if these, just as you would find brand snobs on any forum. People act surprised that there may be some blind loyalty when they enter a forum. Find a forum where that does not exist. I dare you.
Last I checked snobbery was not against forum rules.
muifast - there is nothing wrong with criticizing Porsche, I've probably done more in this thread than anyone. Again missed point. You are the one who got all upset with my comments regarding the GT3, remember?
Hilarious
This is about personal attacks on people's character because of their choices or opinions.. There is plenty of that floating around here that deserves more banning than anything speed21 said.
Perhaps not, but an adverse reaction to it shouldn't come as a surprise, as is generally the case in society. The connotations of snobbery aren't generally favorable: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/snob
In my opinion, there's actually nothing wrong with being a SNOB, because after all, this is a free country. Its only a form of self-expression and fortunately, its definitely your money to spend.
This form of expression becomes a problem when a group is discriminated or prejudiced simply for a different way of thinking. Freedom of speech applies to all in this country, NOT JUST PORSCHE OR GTR, but to ALL.
I think the Moderators have tried their best to allow as much freedom as possible here. After all, this site is still a commercial entity with certain restrictions, albeit fairly broad at that. But at times, when a post crosses the line and begins to rally negativity or public reaction, the Moderators will and should step-in to maintain composure for the WHOLE GROUP.
I often wonder and maybe its just human nature to forget easily... the only difference between freedom and slavery is choice. Each of us have one vote, however insignificant it may be at times, its still one vote and one voice.
Its a lot harder to maintain freedom for all than to polarize the masses through hatred towards minorities. Just pick one country, any country, and read the histories of our world.
Please pardon me... This is truly wayyy beyond the scope of discussing our favorite topics in this forum for sure...

The two can easily be misconstrued.

and no, its not against the rules.
also let me add (while i am at it):
- some of speed21 posts were personal in attacks (specifically, on Maniford and his wife, and Buckwheat.. and their avatars
) and nothing more than a rant from a snob.
- Div was too harsh on Catchmyshadow to question his character. Although i do not know him, he is a Porsche Lover IMO.
- back on subject, is anyone really surprised with the outcome of GTR vs manual 991S in a one lap race ??

That is the problem with comparisons like these. I likened it to the XKR-S vs GT-R comparo that Top Gear tried to pull off. Not happening...
"I'm sorry I made assumptions into our personality based on your comments, but since we don't each other personally, your comments are all I have to go on. Anyway, it's been a good discussion. Other than a few jabs here and there, I think we kept it pretty polite overall."
and that tells me enough that he is a cool guy.

you know, it´s just a forum, so we all just get a small window of someone´s personality and i think if we´d meet in real life we surely would have a good time, cause in the end there is something that binds us together and that´s our extreme love for cars.
i think that applies to the majority of people on here.
The term "badge snobbery" is used by those (who do not own that particular brand) to cast a negative shadow on those who bought into ownership for their own reasons.
Or (my personal favorite) those whom do own said brand (or used too) but will call others a "badge snob" in order to illustrate their superiority through their humble disposition while elevating themselves above those snobs in the name of a higher moral ground...
Same category as saying, a beautiful person is stupid... or size doesn't matter... money doesn't make you happy... self confidence and nice objects are too compensate for insecurities...
Whether some have merit or not, ALL of these are conceived and utilized by individuals who's only means of elevating themselves is by putting others down!
Moreover it would be considered rude by anyone if said right in the face of that person in real life... not here though.
As far as I'm concerned it is those whom have to convince others of their superiority that are... actually, I'm done with this... it's a waist of time.
The ganging up on individuals whom have stood their ground against this Blitz Grieg is shameful and has absolutely NOTHING to do with cars!
I was going to call this thread the epitome of intellectual masturbation... however intellect has nothing to do with this ego stroking fest...
This belongs in the "off topic/controversial" section... which I do not frequent because of the aggressive, condescending and rude nature of the interaction there.
Of course this is only one persons opinion and a badge snob at that (whichever badge's I happen to own at this time).
And with this, my participation here has come to an end as well.
To each their own.

FWIW, I don't condemn successful people wanting to 'flaunt' their success (and corresponding social status) somewhat, whether it's via a Porsche, GT-R, or anything else. As I've said before, I see it as a natural thing, and studies back that up. Everyone seeks self-acceptance, and that usually requires some degree of social acceptance. It can be achieved via material things, or in other ways such as professional achievement, recognized service to society, etc.
The problem is when people become extreme about it, to the extent of trying to exaggerate their status (eg, a car intended to impress, but which the owner can't really afford), or trying to elevate themselves by putting down others. That does tend to reflect insecurity.

I have not posted in this thread for a while and I have skipped over any posts about snobs and badges. I am not interested.
However IMO speed21 got what he deserved. I see many posts here with stronger opinions than mine of where the 991 is headed or where it is. But Speed21 constantly come after me and manifold. Thats not ranting that's starting trouble.
There are other posters who dislike my opinions and we mutually stay out of each others way. But speed couldn't. So goodbye...its a better place without him.

I think the main problem on this thread is not the disagreement between posters but the cars themselves . The new 991 as well as the GTR have a lot to offer but they each also have something lacking . Whether it's reliability , durability , customer service or a badge to some or the flat out peformance and price gap to others both cars have strengths as well as weaknesses .
Not every member here was one sided -- several shared more of a stalemate (like myself). It is a shame that the 991 didn't step up as much in accordance with it's huge price jump and kudos to Nissan for producing a world class performance car at a fraction of the cost of the competition . Nisasn now needs establish the same world class but in sales and service expecations of a high end buyer .
I do believe that if one car had it all ,a landslide opinion vote might have been given to that car .
