In all fairness... Speed21 got banned because he spoke out about a Mod calling people whom love their Porsches "badge ******" and compensating for insecurities...
Said Mod didn't like being questioned and consequently deleted all text in reference to this observation/complaint, banned Speed and closed the thread...

But since the thread is now open again, lets address the elephant in the room.

I enjoy the sparring of words as much as the next, however as in any type of "sports match" the empire/referee should never jump into the action and start swinging away or appoint himself "head of the GTR offense"... especially when he's capable to just take out (ban) the 991 "head of defense"...

If that's the case we definitely need a Mod on the 991 section who's pro 991... I say bring speed21 back as Mod for this section!
Than the playing fields are even.

Because God knows the 991 boys are ALWAYS in the minority on their own damn forum (section).

Wrong. The elephant in the room is that you are severely misinformed and jumping to conclusions.

Speed was banned because over the past 2 years he had continually attacked other members (specifically other Porsche owners in this thread). He had received multiple past warnings, and had also been spoken to privately about his demeanor via PMs. Moreover, he had been previously temp-banned by another moderator for the same type of thing, yet he refused to tone it down. I also believe that ridiculing Manifold's wife in this thread, for thinking that a 991 looks similar to a Panamera, crossed the line on multiple levels. I don't even think you would post negative comments about someone's wife, Sid.

As far as my words, yes...I believe that there are certain members in here who are extremely insecure about badges, cachet, and how they are perceived by others. I don't come up with this stuff on my own; those individuals have made their opinions perfectly clear with their posts. If they don't want to be perceived that way, then they should choose the words that they use within their posts more carefully. If they don't care how they are perceived, then maybe they shouldn't complain when they are called out on their comments. This doesn't just apply to Porsche owners, but also owners of other luxury brands as well. The BMW guys are some of the worst offenders.

As far as your implication that I'm anti-991, that is further misinformation. If you actually read my posts, you would see that I think the 991 is probably the best 911 ever made. I even test drove one and posted those same comments in a different thread in this same section. Since I like to modify my cars, I would personally prefer a 997.1 Turbo over a 991, but that doesn't change my opinion that the 991 is superior in every way other than the ability to be modified for large amounts of power.

I'm pro-991, pro-Porsche, and pro-GTR (as well as many other cars). I don't hate any car. I'm a car enthusiast, so hating cars is contrary to how I think. In my opinion, the people who cry the most when the GT-R is brought into a Porsche discussion are the only ones who are "anti"-anything. They are strongly anti-GTR, and typically (not always), I'm left with the impression from their own posts that this hate resides in the fact that they literally cannot deal with the idea of a "Nissan" outperforming a "Porsche". If a F-car or Lambo outperform a Porsche, you don;t hear a negative thing about it. But if a Nissan does it, it's like it's the end of the world for some Porsche owners. It's actually rather comical.

I'm of the opinion that when someone's self-esteem isn't tied directly to the car that they drive, the success of another car, in any capacity, won't bother them.

I actually went back and read Speed21's posts to use as ammo to get him unbanned. But after reading some of his early posts in this thread, I can see that he made quite a few unnecessary personal jabs, and on top of that called Scott "Diva" as an nickname. Not a good idea to **** off a mod in combination with some of his posts in this thread.

They didn't delete his account, so I'm assuming he's just on an extended vacation.

Just make sure there are no double standards when the GT-R fanboys run out of intellect and start throwing personal attacks.

 

Speed's jabs, insults, and attacks go way beyond this thread. He's been at it for years and I turned a blind-eye to it for far too long.

For that matter who are you (or anyone) to pass judgment on members in this manner... is there a formula to establish when the pride and passion for a brand crosses the line and one becomes "a snob".

THIS IS A PORSCHE SECTION... if I cant show my love for a brand I chose here than where... the GTR Section!?

Furthermore, it's one thing to think certain things, it's quiet another to actually post them up... especially as a Moderator.

Being a Mod has it's privileges and brings an automatic weight of respect from others whom are the recipients of your dedication.
However there is a flip side to this coin.. you are held to a higher standard than members, lead by example and as a referee of sorts you have given up the freedom to make certain statements or get involved personally in heated discussions (or for that matter add fuel to the fire).

The way you have been posting in the 991 section one would never guess your conduct is governed by a higher standard, rather a carte-blanc to say whatever comes to mind.
I dare say Speed21 is no more or less outspoken than you are... yet here you are and Speed21 is banned, looks like a double standard to me.
I guess it's "don't do as I do... do as I say".

Also as far as I know Speed21 was temp banned 2 years ago... at what point does one get a clean slate?

Bottom line if not for Speed i would have never spoken up about this because as soon as someone disagrees with something you say you slam them down and out of respect for the title you hold most will refrain from commenting any further (1 neg rep from you and a member is in the red... not to mention the power to ban).

I do not see what's wrong with having a Mod govern this section who actually shares in the passion for Porsche as it's members do.
Regardless of what you say now, you have made it VERY clear your passion for your GTR trumps that of any Porsche (as it should, it's YOUR ride).

That's just asking for trouble, especially when it's a "quote where a Panamera is mistaken for a 991"...
I have many a story where these types of entertaining things take place but I know better than to include them in a heated discussion.
Even on another thread (more mellow) I know I'm going to get some smart @ss remark if I bring the wife into it...

That said... I did think mistaking a VERY large 4 door Panamera for a 2 door sports car 991 (4 ft smaller) was something very silly... so silly it's not something I'd wanted to comment on.

Someone else did (as to be expected)... and as far as I can see it was done in a "tong & cheek manner, certainly not worth getting banned over, nor any of the other posts on this thread by Speed21.

Lets not bring his comments to BW into this because that's like the pot calling the kettle black...
I think Speed21 can have his own way of "phrasing" things but the only ones whom are offended by it are those whom have "phrased" things very much in the same manner and is always in reply to those... yet non of them are banned.

I might add there were no posts from you to Speed on this thread telling him to tone it down... PM's you say but that's like a post without pictures, no pictures, it didn't happen.

Your post of "enough" came after he questioned your conduct towards 911 6speed members.

I appreciate the responsibilities of a Mod are to deal with a complex set of variables (which I for one do not have the temperament nor disposition for).

However, the fact remains... you banned one of the few who stood his ground when confronted by 991 nay-sayers.
And just like the nay-sayers have a right to voice their opinion so should it be the right of a 991 lover to stand his ground and push back!

Evey action has an equal an opposite reaction... Speed was banned and with that the natural equilibrium which kept things balanced was removed!

Scott, it's not my intention to get into a mud slinging contest, but your posts are obviously antagonizing and should not be coming from a moderator. A guy says that a brand matters to him, and you deem him and badge-enthusiast and not a real enthusiast? Then label a large portion of people who buy Porsche's as such? Think about that after you read the next paragraph. Talk about thinly veiled attacks. And baiting people to give similar judgmental statements about you and get themselves banned.

Are you kidding me? What do you think the enthusiasts jury thinks about you switching cars every year (or less). I can assure you they don't think "well there is an enthusiast right there". And about insecurity, listing every car you think people think matters in your sig even though you don't own them anymore is not exactly bold and independent. Does not totally vibe with you having owned Porsche's before. Just seems redirected via whatever car you own at the time.

Since this is the judgement forum and this type of banter is allowed. Especially from mods.

 

Just wanted to note that the latest issue of Evo has the article which corresponds to the video which initiated this thread. Basically, the reviewer (Tiff) says that he found the 991S more enjoyable to drive on the track, even though the GT-R was faster, and he thinks the gap in the lap time would have been smaller if the 991S had PDK.
